What to wear for hafla??
Hi
hope I will get some good advice here. ..g.:
I am getting ready for a hafla and I am confused as what to wear. What do you usually wear?
I atteded only one very casual halfa before where everybody was in their regular casual street clothes (jeans, shorts, etc), of course except peformers.
This upcoming event will have student as well as profesional performance. I am not performing. There will also be some workshops for participants during the event as well as open floor dancing for everybody.
So I can not go in street clothes because I just can't stand to be in workshop/class in jeans. I am not performing so I will not be wearing costume.
But still I would like to look good in the workshop as well as during open dancing.
I was thinking maybe cute practicewear? Like black pants, nice scarf, black choli top plus some nice hair flowers?
I have very cute tribal bra +belt set costume, it is burned velvet, no sequins or shine. But it is more fancy than class wear.
The belt would go very nicely with either black pants or black cotton straight skirt with a slit. I could wear black tank top + crop choli and then maybe take the tank top off during the workshop?

Re: What to wear for hafla??
Since there's a workshop / chance to just get up and dance, sounds like you're on the right track... something comfortable, yet cute is the way to go.
Avoiding full costuming unless in the show is exactly right.
Have fun!!!!!!

Re: What to wear for hafla??
Exactly what I would recommend... cute practice wear... some comfy/cute practice pants with either a simple crop top or a fun halter top and a simple hip scarf (preferably one w/ out too much noise as coin noise can be distracting in a workshop). For events like this, I just do my black and purple sharifwear pants with a black crop top or a tank top and one of my cute beaded scarves.

Re: What to wear for hafla??
Every area has their own expectations of how to dress. Usually the workshop and the accompanying hafla are not a single, continuous, jointly running event. They may be organized together and attended by the same group of people, but there is usually time after the workshop ends for people (performing or not) to change so that they do not have to go to the party/show in the evening in whatever exercise clothes they wore to class during the day.
I would wear normal workout clothes (whatever you wear to your regular class) to the workshop, and bring a change of clothes for the evening if you do not have time to go home or back to your hotel room between activities. I wouldn't bother to wear hair flowers/falls or costume-y items to the workshop. I've been to more than one workshop where the warm-up or cool-down was conducted on a less-than-immaculate floor, where the class has been vigorously sweaty, or where someone else was dressed in something loud/impractical/distracting. Workshops are for learning. Save the fancy stuff for other occasions.
If the hafla/show has open dancing, you will want to wear something you can move in, but usually closer to casual party- or dancewear than workout wear. It depends on the event, though. If the emphasis is on open dancing and not performing, more of the audience will be dressed in low-level, two-piece dance outfits. If the show is the focus with only a little open dancing, the wardrobe will usually be skewed more toward street clothes. If the event is the sort where groups buy tables for a sit-down dinner in addition to the show, you can expect to see more dressy outfits than if it is chips and dip and sitting on the floor of a dance studio. Can you ask someone who has attended a previous event by this organizer for information about what people have worn in the past?

Re: What to wear for hafla??
For workshops, I usually just wear yoga pants and my student troupe's t-shirt. For the after workshop shows, I'll bring a change of clothes. I usually will wear dress pants and a nice shirt with some funky jewelry.
