Question Good hair repair treatment - natural products or recipes preferred

Ever since I started highlighting my hair I have had horrible breakage and split ends. I never had this when my hair was au naturale (I'm an enhanced blonde). Now I need to start treating it with some super luxe deep conditioner, but I'm not sure what to use. I looked around Etsy and was confused by my choices...

So what natural hair repair treatment do you use? Or do you have any recipes you can share? Something I can make in my kitchen would be preferable.

    Thanks!

I put some Weleda rosemary oil in my hair the other day.....let it sit for hours. I covered my hair with a bandana after braiding it to keep the oil off my shirt. My application wasn't super heavy. I just put some on my hands and kept running my finger through my hair and concentrated on the ends with more oil. Then I used a wide tooth comb.
You could even leave it in over night? I washed it out with some Suave Naturals conditioner...lots and lots of it then did a lemon juice water rinse.

This is what I used because I found it in my cabinet....I might experiment with almond oil and jojoba...I have found olive oil to be to heavy for my hair and I would need to break it up with another lighter type.

I do this before shampooing at the end of the summer to help fix chlorine damage
    1/4 avocado, mashed
    3 tbsps avocado oil
    2 tbsps jojoba oil
    2 tbsps lime juice
In a small bowl, whisk the ingredients together, then warm them by placing the small bowl into a larger bowl filled halfway with hot water. Stir occasionally to distribute the heat evenly. As soon as the mixture is at body temperature, apply it to your damp hair. Yield - This recipe makes enough for 1 treatment.
To use - Apply directly to dampened hair, working from the scalp through the hair to the ends. Wrap your head in a warm damp towel (use an old towel, as the avocado may stain it.) Leave the treatment on for about 20 minutes. Without rinsing, shampoo hair, then rinse thoroughly.

The lime juice can be replaced with lemon, but either will be good for clarifying your blonde color.

I tend to stay inside with this concontion on my head because you start to smell like warm guacamole and the bugs come flocking.

This isn't natural, but I LOVE John Frieda's Overnight Therapy. I'm extremely particular about products too because what works wonders for the majority of people does not work for me.

I periodically just do a hot oil treatment with olive oil, then shampoo it out. I also really like using cassia obovata (but I need to order more!) works like henna to condition, but does not dye- you can get it at http://www.mehandi.com/shop/cassiaobovatabuy.html

I like raw coconut oil doing the same as Lylagus. I also have bleached hair. I do a vinegar rinse after I washed the conditioner out. I have really hard water here and it is bad for my hair. the vinegar wash helped a lot. I will try the lemon rinse.

I really like vinegar/water rinses to! I'll give coconut oil a try ... sounds like it would smell really amazing

Not natural but I've found that switching to a shampoo without sulfates did wonders for my hair. I have thyroid issues and my hair felt like straw. Right now I'm using L'oreal's ever pure and I'm only needing a deep conditioner once a week or less.

I warm olive oil and put it in my wet hair. I tie my hair up in a plastic bag and allow the oil to soak in for a few hours before washing it out.

Warm olive oil. Or Mayo. If you go with Mayo, make sure it's full fat. You want the oil! Put onto dry hair and allow to sit for 30 mins - and hour. Than shampoo. Some hair dressers suggest doing this about once a week.

    Some people also use eggs.

oh, that reminded me- I used to do yogurt too- I think I stopped when I started to henna, maybe- anyway, full fat yogurt, and the acid in the yogurt acts similar to vinegar in closing the scales on the hair shaft too.

Just FYI, nothing actually repairs split ends; all those products claiming to do so merely glue the ends together which just hides the damage and delays the inevitable. The only way to 'fix' splits is to cut them off.

However the suggestions above (oil etc.) are great for helping prevent splits by keeping the hair supple and moisturized.

Like Bella237 I've had dramatically fewer splits since I stopped shampooing with sulfates (in fact I mostly wash with conditioner only these days; Giovanni brand works great!).
