Best book for makeup tips?
Ok, so let's face it, I'm bad with stage makeup! I can't seem to put enough... I always end up looking like I look every normal day even if I have the impression that I put on so much more... Even with fake eyelashes! And glitters! .w.:
I just bought Azhia's makeup DVD (can't wait to receive it), but I was also looking for various books that would help me with makeup application... Or a website where I could actually print certain looks. I know MAC has some.
I need help with transitioning from "every day normal look" to the stage/show look.
Any book recommendations?
Thanks!

I love many make-up books. For tips on dramatic makeovers, I'd recommend Kevin Aucoin's. He was a genius.

Re: Best book for makeup tips?
Love Way Bandy, the 70s makeup god responsible for the "Martha Mitchell makeover": Designing Your Face for basics, and Styling Your Face for more fanciful stuff. Beautiful clear descriptions of shading technique.
Possible drawbacks are the illustrations (drawings, not photos) and style (late 70s, though the underlying principles are really sound). Cosmetics have also evolved quite a bit since these were written!
Still, great for pointers and inspiration.

Thanks to UK Bhuzzer Emma I found MissChevious's YouTube channel. I haven't gone through any of her makeup tutorials yet, but I *love* her awesome Arab eyes!

I was going to suggest Mischievious. She is amazing. Check out her arab eyes tutorial.
I am going for a book though because I need to stop the you tube vid, run to my mirror, go back, etc and it's too hard to remember all the steps..l;,

LOL - I have a laptop, so I can set it up in front of my mirror.
Convenience WIN! ..l;,
Of course, this is no guarantee I'll actually be able to replicate any of those lovely looks myself with any degree of success... ..c::

I'm going to have to concur on Making Faces. Aucoin was a genius with subtlety, drama, and wisdom to know the difference!

Re: Best book for makeup tips?
honestly, even the seasoned performers don't have the best makeup (i don't mean that in a mean way). a lot of performers you will notice have the same makeup "routine", wear the same colors, same application, without consideration of the costume they are wearing, their hair, and the occasion. think of it as....if you saw a celebrity or singer always wearing the exact same makeup in music videos or photos, it would not be good.
one of the best places to learn is at the MAC store. avoid dept. store makeup counters.
another good tip is always keep up on the new products, colors, brush applicators, read the sephora reviews, by trial and error with products you'll learn a lot about application, formulas, ingredients, trends, etc. I believe there is always a better way to get a better look. And Sephora's free returns make it easy :)Last edited by BooBah; 06-23-2011 at 12:18 AM.
