    Question About Yasser's

I was just wondering what the quality of Yasser costumes are considered to be (good, bad, excellent) and if there are usually tags in a Yasser costume to identify it as one. I just received a costume that is supposed to be a Yasser but there isn't a tag, threads weren't trimmed, and the beading seems loose in several areas. In fact a couple strands of beading came undone while in transit The armbands and headband seem like an afterthought and just thrown together also. I'm just curious.

    Re: Question About Yasser's

Hmmm that's odd. Is it older or been worn a bit?

I owned a Yasser and tried on a couple others. I LOVE their fit and comfort, and they are beautiful! I sold my custom Yasser as the blue was a navy (not my color) instead of royal blue. It did come with a big trumpet bottom, their little arm floofies -it did have a couple loose thread ends (he used clear thread) but no beading seemed loose. It was drop dead gorgeous.

I think Mumtaz is/was Mr Yasser's designer, and he is making quite a stir on The Bellydance store. They are very similar! Here's one: http://bellydancestore.biz/gallery.p...9b5d13c5f0d366

I'd love to see a picture of your pretty!

    Re: Question About Yasser's

My Yassers don't have tags in them to identify them as such. The design of one is essentially a Pharaonix knock-off (I actually have the Pharaonix as well, just in a different colourway! ..l;,). The quality of my Yasser is definitely noticably lower than the Pharaonix, and that includes wearbility - the beading in all of my Pharaonix is still just as sturdy as it ever was, but I've lost a few strands of beading in my Yassers.

I still love them though! I bought them just off the rack in Yassers shop in Cairo, so they were very reasonably priced. For what I paid, I'm very happy.

    Re: Question About Yasser's

This one was bought brand new from Mohamed Shahin. It's the green marijuana leaf costume. I really love it and once the hooks (which are sewn on poorly) are adjusted and secured it'll be even more comfy. Of course the strands that broke could be from transit as it took over a couple months to get to me. It's traveled more miles in that time than I have in the last year! LOL I'll try to get a picture of it soon. Thanks for all the info!

    Re: Question About Yasser's

I bought several Yassers off the rack also. I haven't had problems with loose beading or breakage...no paint chipping on the beads. All of the Yasser's I've had have been very comfortable and very well made, no tags.

    Re: Question About Yasser's

We ordered five troupe costumes from Yasser earlier this autumn. They way they came sounds about the same as the condition yours was in, poohbear. They look beautiful and there are loads of sparkly stones on them. However, there were quite a lot of loose threads on the inside and the mesh for the belly area was stitched with stitches veeeery far apart. I haven't been too concerned about this as all of it is something easy fixable. Also we were in a hurry to get them because of a competition, so the time from ordering to having them in our hands was less than a month. I thought that was so exceptional so I forgave everything about loose strands ..g.:

Also no tag in our costumes.

    Re: Question About Yasser's

I thought Yasser was more of a shop than a designer, perhaps representing several manufacturer/designers? Or does he also have a workshop somewhere? He definitely seemed more of a retailer (a la Dahlal) than designer (a la Eman) when I was there.

His costumes are usually considered to be of good to nearly-excellent quality. Not like Pharoanics or Abla, His prices are just under Hannan's or Eman's-- and a step above most Joharas -- and I think his quality is as well. Lots of sparkle, great fit, nice designs... but for just over half the price of a Pharonics or Abla, I expect to have to trim a few threads and replace a loose stone here or there.

On the spectrum of 'you get what you pay for' I've usually found Yasser's costumes to be a real value. But it sounds like you may have gotten one that slipped through quality control!

I bought two costumes from him in Cairo this Summer. They're excellent quality, design is beautiful and they fit great. I'm very happy with my purchases!

...but I'm not sure if all the costumes in the store are designed by him.

    Re: Question About Yasser's

I have a beautiful red Yasser that I've been trying to sell on the Swap Meet (my booty has sadly outgrown the skirt). No tag identifying it as such, but the vendor told me it was and it's got the classic chunky beading features. I've worn it a ton of times and it shows almost no wear. It's a true workhorse!

Same here! But they do have a distinctive style that pulls me in like a little moth to a flame. xD

Ditto Lauren - He's a shop, not a designer, and I talked with him in September, and he hadn't heard of Mumtaz. Doesn't mean he doesn't work with him, just might know him differently. I think we all call costumes from Yasser's shop a "Yasser" because it indicates good quality for a good price. But it sounds like hit or miss here and there, which can happen - if you've ever seen the number of costumes packed into that tiny shop! Yasser costumes aren't tagged.

    Re: Question About Yasser's

The Yasser in the above video, informed us that there are actually 2 *other* costume-selling Yasser's in Khan el Khalili. We went to one of the other Yasser's and the costumes were attractive and affordable but the quality wasn't as good.

So, you mean there are three Yassers?

    Re: Question About Yasser's

    I went to this one:

    Yasser
    2 Sekket
    Khan El Kahlili
    Tel./fax 786 5966

(as it was stated in Meissoun's website)

There was another guy in the store, not the one of the video. But there were a few pictures of Jillina (as he speaks on video) and the place looks like the same...
