Half circle organza veils at Dahlal
https://www.dahlal.com/default.aspx?n=1&c=2&sn=AP10-01V
Have any of you tried these? I'm wondering how they move, what they're best for, and what they absolutely will not work for.

Re: Half circle organza veils at Dahlal
I buy them like they're going out of style from my local friendly bellydance enabler Hope (Hope's Travel Treasures) and LOVE them! I have one in every color of the rainbow like a total junkie. I wouldn't recommend them for dreamy, full-length AmCab-style veil routines (silk is far better for that). But the organza veils have a nice sturdy weight to them that helps when you're doing fast veil, entrances and double veil. You can whip 'em around and they don't turn into dish rags!
Plus, they have a wonderful liquidy sheen that photographs amazingly

Re: Half circle organza veils at Dahlal
The group I dance with are using these in our next performance. They are espcially good for group dances . They's re not too big, they're not too small for the taller girls. the colours are really effective. They are like sweetie/candy wrappers!!! I really do like my silk veils but these move well enough and for a troupe ,silk was out of our reach moneywise. If anywhing the shiny'ness' makes then just as effective.
We got ours in the UK (I am sure they are the same) at http://www.faridadance.com/bellydanc...iny-veils.html

Thanks, ladies! I ordered 3: orange, red, and rust. I have a hank of gold colored organza, so when I get these I will be able to tell how they are made and may be able to make a gold one.

Cool! They're also great for petite dancers and tight spaces, since they're a little smaller than a full 3 yard rectangle. Let us know what you think

Re: Half circle organza veils at Dahlal
I've been playing with these today, and I think they are just too heavy. They are not catching the wind and opening up like they should. I didn't expect them to be as floaty as silk but something is "off". Even if I get them opened when spinning horizontally they collapse when I change to something else. But it may be me and not the veils, so I'll keep working at it, though I'm thinking now they're so inexpensive because they are not all that versatile after all.
Any tips on getting them to cooperate? Do I need to launder them to soften them up or is that going to make things worse? Or just keep spinning until I hit the best positioning myself?
Do any of you know of a video that is using specifically these?Last edited by Darbla; 12-05-2010 at 01:32 PM.

Boy, do I feel "duh": they mostly just needed washing.

I sent them through the washer 4 times this morning, that improved them, and they're handling better now. Now to get MYSELF better at it.

These veils worked beautifully in our routine. They certainly don't seem heavy. However one of the veils ( we have 10) a fabulous rust colour was heavier than the others. There are 8 of us in the troupe(6 performed that night) and we were really pleased with them. With a biggish group you don't want anything bigger and they were big enough for the tallest member of the group at 5'10". We did get ours from the Uk trader I mentioned ut they look as if they are the same as Dahlal's and we paid a similar price. I'd ceratinly recommend them .

Lizajuk, my rust one is bigger than the other two and the fabric feels different.
