Pink Paillette Costume Instructions - Made With Hipscarves!

If you're looking for something fun to make or need an inexpensive idea for troupe bedlah costumes, I've put up instructions for this costume:

Even if you don't want to use hipscarves, you may benefit from the info I include on how I make bra and belt bases.

Feel free to share and/or link to the instructions page (page one of four). The pages are linked to each other, but just in case:
Page 2 - Construct and Cover the Belt with Base Fabric
Page 3 - Cover Bra and Belt with Hipscarves
Page 4 - Adding Straps, Lining, Hooks, and Making Accessories

I've had students do something similar with the cheap chinese coin scarves, and it's a great way to do a first costume. Nice tutorial!

Thanks! I love it when people share how they make their costumes.

Go to where it says Instructions. The links for the rest of the instructions are there.

EDIT: Just checked those links and they are broken!

Oh how cute! Where were you when I needed this years ago when I was a baby belly dancer and couldn't afford a pricey costume!!!! Still, it's good information and I love the pink! Thank you for sharing this and I bet the fit is perfect! Patricia

When I first started dancing, hip scarves cost $50-60 each, so it would have cost over $150 plus the cost of the bra & materials to make something like this. The internet has really brought down prices on imported specialty items a LOT!!!

No kidding! I've often thought that some of the "Dancer Designs" on Dahlal utilizing several (better quality) hipscarves are almost expensive as a regular costume. I'm guessing these paillette & coin types are made in China. In my opinion, they're too short for most dancers to actually wear as hipwraps and the paillettes are going to be scratched up quickly from regular class use, but they worked well for this purpose.

I can't get over how *good* this looks. Most of the instructions I've seen for bedlah made from hipscarves are charming, but they do look like bedlah fashioned from/covered with hipscarves. This doesn't look DIY. And I love the color. (I just finished my first covered bra project, and hit your page while looking for bra-covering tutorials. Belt next!)

I'm thinking exactly the same! Now, I'm waiting for Mr. Postman with 2 new scarves coming my way... In different colors!
