    Great Shamadon..(Almanar) a review...can't find the original thread**Pics posted

There was a thread way back regarding Shamadons and people inquiring about the Almanar ones. Ours arrived, (very quickly, I might add), and I picked it up yesterday. It is gorgeous. I got the brass Luxury one . It came all in pieces, but it didn't take me (too) long to put it together. Everything fits together nice and snug. I got the glass crystal drops and they are beautiful. They reflect the light nicely and are making little rainbows all over my kitchen.

My only negative is that: because I have a very small head, 19 1/2 inches, I ordered the smallest size which was 20.5 and the headpiece is huge. I new I would have to tighten the screw, but in my opinion this works best when you only have a minor adjustment and not a whole inch. I am having a hard time getting it even and getting it to sit straight on my head. without sliding around alot But its only b/c I had to tighten it so much. It was all lined up nicely before that. LOL

I will take some pics and post.

    hope this helps

Wonderful! Pix would be great - how much did you end up paying by the time it got here?

    about $300 with shipping

I can't remember the exact pricing breakdown and shipping costs, someone else was handling all correspondence which were hard to understand at times.

    That's beautiful!

$300 isn't all that bad considering what the junkers cost and what you're getting with this one. Looks very well made "from here".

it really is gorgeous...I just wish my head was bigger...LOL...so it would fit properly....There was a cheaper version w/ plastic crystals, but I think, if you are going all out you might as well spend a little extra and get the real ones.

Just curious about the total weight with all those lovely crystals...happened to come up in an unrelated conversation over the weekend.

It's absolutely gorgeous by the way!

I just came across this post again, and happened to weigh it, my scale isn't the most accurate but I did a before and after and I am thinking it is around 3 or 4 lbs...definitely under 5 lbs.

Gorgeous! If you decide to talk them into making a custom one for your teeny head, I call dibs on your castoff. :)

    Hi,

    Gorgeous! : )

You can glue some thick foam padding cut in a strip to the inside of the shamadan crown and glue it onto the inside of the crown.

Or you can cover the foam w/ material, and glue Velcro onto the material and also the inside of the crown.

It should give you a nice, stable and comfortable fit.

Here is an article from my blog about shamadan dancing & history... w/ tips for fitting, care & repair

Great, I will check out your article...thanks!!! I want to use it so bad..it is so gorgeous!!I was thinking about doing something like that, but my only concern was that since there would be so much padding, that it would move around too much and and slide around.

    The padding will usually work!

F you have never used a shamadan before, practice first without the candles, because even though they feel light in your hand, they add a lot weight to your head-- for real.

then practice with short candles, graduating to longer ones. The higher the candles are, the more prone they are to wobble, even if you have a snug fit on the crown.

When you feel comfortable doing that, then graduate to short LIT candles. : )
