What color with Bronze? - UPDATED with PIX!
Pix in post #21.
I want to make a tribaret-style costume from a basic bronze bedlah, here is a picture of the bra. There are tiny gold accents mixed with the bronze beads & sequins. I want to add some cool appliques that have cowrie shells, bronze beads and amber stones to make the set a little more more interesting.
What color skirt would be good with this, do you think? It seems to look good with royal purple, but I am wondering if cream would pick up on the cowries and the earthiness of the tribaret idea. I know there are many of you with a great eye for costuming here on Bhuz. What do you like with bronze?
The copper veil is in the picture just to show the contrast between the copper color and the bronze color. (Someone was looking for a copper veil.)

Re: What color with Bronze?
Hey, I used to have this one! ..g.:
I thought it would go super well with the tie-dye cinnamon set I bought from L Rose but... it did not. The cinnamon was too gold-y. A deeper burnt orange? Would have been awesome.
It went fabulously well with a rich dark chocolate brown.
If you're going the chiffon skirt route, how about both chocolate brown *and* cream? The cream can pick out your cowries, and the rich dark brown will tone in well with the ambers and coppers?
Caveat: I am a completely 100% Egyptian glitter junkie, so I have zero experience with tribal/tribaret costumes!

Re: What color with Bronze?
Here are some of the appliques I am working with:
Ebay won't let me copy the images, so I only have an image for one of the appliques, but you get the idea:

I have several more appliques of this style that are larger and more elaborate, plus the amber jewels, which are a round applique. I have enough of those to put all around the belt, alternating with the smaller square appliques. The larger square appliques will accent the front center of the bra and possibly on each bra cup near the top strap.
It's frustrating not to be able to post the other images. I can see them in My eBay but can't copy them or post the link so you can see them.
I'm looking forward to Bhuz input. ..g.:

Ooh, I like the idea of the cream AND brown skirts, I was thinking of chiffon skirts, I love the swish. Thanks for the idea. I've been a glitter junkie, too, for quite awhile, this is kind of a return to my earthier roots in the "ethnic" American Cabaret style of long ago.

Re: What color with Bronze?
I'm not sure my monitor is picking up the color accurately (the bra looks closer to gold than bronze, and the copper veil looks red), so take my suggestions with a grain of salt. I like bronze with darker colors for a rustic, medieval look, so I'd start with jewel tones--rich reds, dark blues and greens, etc. Black would also work and give a tiger-ish combination. A lot of matching comes down to whether the set has a warmer or cooler undertone--for example, would a deep brick red compliment it more than a plummy burgundy? You'd need to get the pieces together, in person under the same lighting conditions to decide.
I tend to think of bronze as being kind of tarnished and dusky (sort of the gold equivalent of the difference between "silver" and "gunmetal gray"), so I'm not sure I would like the contrast of a clean white or off-white. I think if you can get a more un-dyed, organic color (as opposed to a sterilized white or a bright French vanilla), it might fit the scheme better, especially if you are going to incorporate natural elements like shells.

Re: What color with Bronze?
Maybe it's the flash that is making the bronze look more gold - but there are tiny gold accentbeads in the set. The set looks better with deep purple than with any other color I've tried so far, so I would see burgundy over brick.
I also like the idea of black. Perhaps the cream would have been better with a set that was less glitzy to begin with. This is basically a fringe monster, after all. I kind of wish the accent beads were silver instead of gold.

Re: What color with Bronze?
There are probably cream or white fabrics that would look good with it--maybe something textural like a burnout or a jacquard--but the issue is how difficult it would be to locate it. The photo of the applique looks like it has a greenish iridescent finish on the long beads between the shells (might be my monitor again). Have you tried Christmas green? What about a multicolored skirt--something with panels in different shades of dark red, blue, green, and purple, or a black skirt with contrasting godets?

I'm thinking autumn leaf colors: brick red, rich coppery brown, rust, forest green, burnt orange....

Re: What color with Bronze?
Thanks, everyone, for all the suggestions. I think teal might work it it were the right teal. Highly saturated colors seem to work best, and those are what I love the most anyway. I will keep trying different colors with it until I find the perfect thing.
Bronze is trickier than I expected, since I don't feel that excited about brown or olive or autumn colors on me. They don't really suit me. I'm a "Summer," in that old color palette scheme. I usually wear bright colors, but those don't look right with the bronze. Except maybe the bright blue someone mentioned, that might work.

Re: What color with Bronze? - UPDATED
I sewed the appliques to the bra and put it next to a white skirt and it looks beautiful. Because of the gold beads and sequins mixed in with the bronze and the white of the cowrie shells, they look great together. I was hoping for something kind of fresh and unusual and I think it is working. I will post pictures soon so you can see how it looks.

I have a bronze bedleh-mine has both gold and red accents. I had thought red, but sweetie insisted green would work better. He was right-the contrast color really makes the bronze POP!

This may sound garish, but when you see it in person it's very striking: bronze with magenta! The magenta brings heat to the coolness of the bronze.

Re: What color with Bronze? - UPDATED with PIX!
The costume is mostly finished - I wore it at our Christmas Eve show with a leopard print skirt/sleeve/headband set that I bought from Annwyn here on Bhuz. Shoes were custome-ordered from Tina Sargent. The appliques I added to the bedlah were from Glory's House. The lace choli I made, not sure if it's the right thing but I needed something for this show. I had intended to wear brown harems in the same tone as the choli but couldn't find them, so used the beige underskirt instead. Overall, I am pleased, but will continue to tweak the outfit.

Beautiful costume Dunyah!
I love the leopard with it!
I've paired bronze lame' veils with brown/gold coin bedla, and burgundy skirt (loved it).
