Should I sell the skirt?
I bought a costume here, a red sim, and the skirt is too short. I knew it would be too short, but got a good deal on it that I figured I could either lengthen it or just make a new one.
Problem. I can't find a red velvet to match what the skirt is made of, so I can't just undo the elastic and add to the top. I don't think I can add to the bottom because of the combo velvet and chiffon gores.
So should I sell the skirt separate or keep it with the bra/belt/cuffs/headband.

Short red skirt? You should sell it to me ;)
Seriously, if you think you'll be re-selling the costume, probably best to keep it all together so you can sell it for a bigger and better prices as a full set later on.Sabrina Bellydancer, San Diego, California. Available worldwide. Workshops. Shows.

Re: Should I sell the skirt?
If you unpick the casing for the elastic (I presume it has one), you can unfold it and gain another inch or so. Then find a fabric of a vaguely similar colour and attach enough at the top to make a new casing. It won't matter too much if you can't match the colour exactly, as the belt should cover this. Then when you sell it on, it's easy enough for the new owner to undo your alterations if necessary... ..g.:
Or does the belt not cover the top couple of inches of skirt?

Re: Should I sell the skirt?
Does the skirt have decorations sewn directly to it, or is the belt a separate piece? If it's a one-piece design, then adding onto the top may be obvious, too. If the skirt has contrasting gores, I think it would be difficult to lengthen it from the bottom without the alteration calling attention to itself. It might be possible if the designs are restricted to the top of the skirt, though. Sometimes that kind can be converted to the style that looks like a miniskirt plus a dust ruffle, especially if you use the leftover bottom fabric to make arm pieces that tie the new dust ruffle to the arms. Too-short skirts are tricky because it's hard to lengthen in a way that looks like part of the original design.

Re: Should I sell the skirt?
The skirt does not have beading on the top, and I can undo the casing and add to it easily. If it were just an inch or two, it'd be no problem, but I need SO much more, that it shows under the belt. I found some that's closer in color, but not the same actual kind of fabric. I'll see if it can work. I'm planning to keep the costume for a while, as it fits me well, and I love the color.
I'll try the new extra fabric and see if I can get a good pic to post and maybe it'll be ok. Fingers crossed.
Thanks ladies.

Re: Should I sell the skirt?
Is there some way to add something to the top that doesn't match, but looks like it was meant to be there to be decorative, like something in a coordinating color with beading or embroidery or something so it looks like it was different on purpose? perhaps something you could also incorporate a small accessory of elsewhere in the costume to tie it together?
