How do you prep your legs....

...for leggy costumes? I always seem to have some bruise or something so I'm giving some vitamin K lotion a try. What are your secrets to making your legs look good?

I'm terrible, all I do is shave (in the shower) and drench with sweet almond oil (while still in the shower) and it seems to work out just fine. The only problem I have with my leg skin is dryness. I like the idea of using glitter though, for hiding a bruise or pimple.

I've tried vitamin K cream in the past. It was expensive and didn't do anything. I have one spider vein cluster beside my knee that can be seen from a distance and looks blue-purple like a fresh bruise. If I think my costume might let it show I use make-up, the same type of concealer I would use for under-eye circles.

Concealer. A really good thick one, plus a bit of fake tan.
Oh - and don't climb into the loft space for the Christmas decorations the day before a performance..... I have a HUGE bruise on the front of my hip and another on my shin bone!

Another vote for Sally Hansen Airbrush legs here, even if I do have to order it online because pasty white (ahem, "nude glow") isn't a popular enough colour for shops to stock.

newly initiated to the Sally Hansen airbrush legs club, I love it. Its pricey but soooooo worth it. I spray it on and rub it in after I am all dry but I apply it standing in the tub because it is a bit messy. I use the medium tone, then I finish it off with the airbrush legs shimmer spray-not glittery, it adds a sheen.

    Hi, ladies!

I use Sally Hansen Airbrush legs too---I think it's a bargain, actually. My skin is a neon shade of pasty white, and I've tried many different self-tanners. Self-tanners are generally expensive, and considering that I can find Airbrush Legs for $11-$14 (it's cheapest at Wal-Mart in my area), I think it's a bargain at twice the price.

Anyway, I also wanted to add my two cents about concealer. If you're going to put it on your legs, you should spring for a good brand like Ben Nye. Ben Nye is actually stage makeup that's used in theater as well as on TV. A wheel of concealer with several different shades runs about $30, but it's soooo worth it. You don't have to use a lot because it's highly pigmented. Whether you put it on your legs or use it on your face, it'll make you look amazingly flawless. (FYI: Yellow or apricot orange shades will mask your blue-purple bruises. Green concealer covers red blemishes. Check this out: http://styles101.homestead.com/corective.html

Here's a question for the Sally Hansen airbrush users: I'd like to buy a can in the right skin tone, but how do I determine the right tone when I'm on the other side if the pond and can't try the shades?

I shave with oil soap instead of shaving gel. I haven't had any shaving bumps or cuts when using oil and it seems to keep me moist enough on most days so I don't even need lotion. When it's really dry here though, I use that caress shower gel stuff to shave with as it seems to moisturize my legs even more. As far as bruises go... I don't really do anything about them. I'll just wear split leg harems under my skirt instead of bloomers/shorts to cover any blemishes up.

If you consider yourself pale, use the Nude Glow (which most of us can only get on eBay here in the States). If you're pale with a tan, try Light Glow. I don't have experience with the darker shades.

For bruises... Arnica gel or cream. It's available at natural/health food stores- or in the organic section of your supermarket, if you're lucky.

Re: How do you prep your legs....

I love Sally Hansen airbrush legs, I can't seem to find it in stores any more though. So currently I just use my regular foundation or self tanner mixed with regular lotion for a more even application. and then add a shimmer powder.
