Thread: Craft store shoppers! -- Need help finding something

Hi all,
I am in desperate need of some supplies for my pearl costume. I am looking for beige glass pearls. They come in 20 inch strands and are about 4mm large. They are made by Blue Moon and perhaps Halcraft.

I've only been able to buy them from one vendor online, but you don't really get a choice of styles. They are sold at AC Moore, Michaels and Joann's, usually in the little clear plastic bins. They come in little rolls and usually range from $2-4.

For those of you interested in helping out...please, please keep an eye out for these as you hit the craft stores. I will pay you back for them and shipping. I think I need about 4-5.

Thanks ladies! At Joann's they're usually in these non-descript plastic containers/drawers things where the front part slides open and out. They never get hung up. Even if they only have one strand...I need it. Thanks!

I checked Joann's in Portland ME. Nothing. Very low on pearls in general.

Couldn't find any in Idaho Falls. The store was pretty picked over too... they didn't even have the elastic I wanted.

I know they usually carry glass pearls by Crystazzi at my Michael's. The ones I have are medium-sized and say 8mm, I use them for my knit wire jewelry. I will look for smaller ones next time I'm there!

The only 4mm that I've seen at Crystazzi at Michael's is ivory...but you're in a big city, so maybe your Michael's carries more inventory. If you could look that would be great though. :)

Ok back to topic now. I think you will have some luck at Hobby Lobby. They have Blue Moon beads and I was in my local Hobby Lobbys about a week ago thinking "If I wanted to make a pearl costume, this would be the right place for it."

I agree with the Joann comment, but sometimes it is all people have... We have that or Hancocks...and that's it. We don't have a Hobby Lobby.

Aww, you'da loved Hobby Lobby's too. Did you look online?

I understand that for alot of people Joann's is the only thing available, but that's probably the cause of suckage. They don't have enough competition as a large franchise to change anything about their store, including updating their stock.

Here's what I found at the stores near me.

Michael's has two strands of UPC 66435 13293, pale taupe, looks more like picture #1, for $4.00 each.

JoAnn has one strand of UPC 66435 17858, champagne colored, looks more like picture #3, for $1.39 (sale price). They also had a strand in nearly the same color as 17858 that had kind of a bubbled look--couldn't tell if that was supposed to be some sort of nugget/pseudo-sandblasted/faux freshwater pearl finish or if it was a mistake in manufacturing. I didn't think that one was in the running, since it was so lumpy looking, but I could go back for it if you're really desperate.

Thanks Tourbeau. I am going to run to a differnt Michaels (This will be my 3rd) after work today and if I don't get enough of what I need, I might take you up on the offer (for the Michaels ones...although by the time you go back, they'll probably be gone).

(and yeah, I've seen the bubbly ones and they are not what I want...I actually have some left from when I ordered in bulk and got a bunch of the random pearls in all different shapes sizes and colors... )
