I kind of like it too. It's not something I would wear, but she wears it really well.

Yah, I'm not sure if I could pull it off either but she definitely does, in my opinion. I really like her unique costumes choices, she has another one that has a sort of Safari and butterfly motif to it, too. Very unique.
Then again, she could wear a paper bag and look gorgeous.
ah ha, here is the other one:

These are gorgeous, she looks great.
Anyone know who designed these costumes, they are very unique?

Re: funky print costume
Mercedes' map costume is really cool - the base fabric covers the whole globe, but the map of the Middle East is specifically embroidered on the bra

The author of this costume is a Hungarian designer who is also a dancer - Katalin Schäfer. I met her in Cairo last November and she is a really fun and nice person. She says she puts a lot of effort into choosing the fabric and materials for the costumes as she wants them all to be one of the kind. I don't know if she has a webpage though.

Re: funky print costume
I contacted Katalin and she responded very quickly. She has three price ranges (not including shipping). in her words:
"$550 - classic (synthetic material)
$750- premium (pure silk or special decor)
and $1050 (very special design like Mercedes)
all of them are haute couture"
she showed me a picture of a very pretty red one in the $550 range. worth emailing her if you're interested ;)

Love the clip of Aradia, and that is a great costume. The whole dance reminds me of the old days, this is the style of belly dance I first saw and learned as a baby dancer.

Re: funky print costume
My fav was number 38. But to be honest I thought they got a little repetitive with the one nude bra cup or nude base..... Is that her signature thing.?
