    overskirt pattern?

I'm looking for a pattern for a short overskirt - longer at the sides than the front and back, in a somewhat stretchy material. The waistbands are often a wide band that rolls over (yoga pants style).
    Any ideas?

    Thanks,
    Jennifer

    Re: overskirt pattern?

Most of the overskirts I've seen like that follow a basic rectangle-with-slash-in-the-centre pattern, with the slash either straight across, or on an angle, to make the end drops more interesting.

You can add a wide elastic to the slash, to make it more secure, but I've also seen skirts that consist solely of the fabric, without elastic.

You can turn the rectangle into an oval if you prefer.

Wow, that is so simple. Thanks!
Any thoughts about how to do the fold over waist band?

Since you're enjoying costuming posts here on bhuz, you might enjoy the costuming section of my web site: http://www.shira.net/costuming/sitemapc.htm

For the specific overskirt you're thinking of, have a look at the Making Your Own Costumes section of that page, in the sub-category for Online Patterns. Scroll down to Dina Lydia, and click on Handkerchief Skirt. I think that's the style you're talking about.

Thanks! I got sidetracked by work for a few weeks but now I'm back to my sewing projects.
