Re: What are you working on in January, 2011
Zeevah, you look stunning in the orange! And the new costume looks beautiful.
I am working on finishing an old project that I gave up on long ago. It's based on thrift-store finds - a beautifully dyed rainbow silk dress and tons of silver beaded appliques harvested from a lavishly beaded blouse. I am taking a new approach, making a thin belt and skirt out of the dress. We shall see, I am enjoying the process and if it turns out well, great. If not.... oh well.
I need to buy a new camera, I think. I can't find my camera anywhere.

Zeevah, I can't wait to see the new costume complete!
I actually started sewing again last week, and this month I will be beading.

Zeevah, orange looks lovely on you.
Raya, the corals and the seaweed are beautiful!!! Can't wait to see the complete thing!
I'm slowly finishing off my fancy practice costume. The bra is ready (although I'm thinking to make the straps turquoise later on). Need to finish off the back of the shrug and roll hem the pants. The pants are a bit big on me right now, I lost a couple of pounds while being sick.

Zeevah-I especially love your new project. The contrast and the curves-yummy!
Raya-That Seaweed!!! Awesome!
Sophie, thank you so much for your detailed response in the December thread. Something to think about.... I also saw where you make your bras from scratch. Wow. You are something else. How do you get them so round and smooth?

This thread is always full of so many inspiring projects. Love the orange. Nice and flowy. And the "fancy" practice outfit- hot!
That seaweed costume is AMAZING! Can't wait to see it finished. Wow!

Re: What are you working on in January, 2011
Thank you for the comments! For a woman who wears boring blacks, browns and navies during her non-dance life, I'm finding a great deal of joy in pulling out crayon colors when I dance! The bra and belt are from a 1980's era metallic brocade jacket. Both bra and belt have hand strung icicle fringe (which took the month to get done!)
Here's a better shot of the bra...

Oh, that mermaid is gorgeous! I love it!
Someday, someday, someday I will have a mermaid costume. Ordering a new costume just hasn't been in the cards lately. But soon!

Raya: I love the coral, what a wonderful idea to make those with seed beads!
Sophie: The color and fit of the practice outfit look so good on you! You have a special occasion for wearing your brand new work-out outfit?

Re: What are you working on in January, 2011
I'm working on a couple of projects. The one making the most progress so far is a lime green bra/skirt with fuschia and turquoise accents. It's going to be loud and obnoxious
So far I've got the bra base complete, decorations mapped out, and a couple godets inserted on the skirt.
The other one will be a bit more elegant. It's a champagne pink holographic fabric that will also be a bra/skirt combo. I'm having some trouble finding the right colors to go with it though. The color is interesting. Under dim light it's like a slight pink-dove grey/champagne. In good lighting, it looks more pink and has that multicolor shine that is characteristic to hologram fabrics. I am thinking that wine/burgundy will look really nice with it, but also maybe just a black. Ugh! I can't decide! I'm in no hurry though, I've got the green one to work on

Re: What are you working on in January, 2011
SandraDances, I can't tell how I make the bra, but let's just say that it takes longest to make and I'm still looking for ways to improve the fit and to streamline the whole process. Which brings me to the question that mekyria asked. This particular set was made for a silk veil workshop that I'm teching this Saturday at the Eilat Festival. I have a gorgeous 3 color veil by Fairy Cove Silks (electric green, turquoise and purple) and I wanted the set to match it :)))
But I always give my costumes a run before I use them on stage whether in class I take or teach, mainly to test the bra fit, see whether the changes I made in construction were right and make sure nothing pops out at show time :) So today I gave this set (without the shrug that't not ready yet, arghhh) a run because it was the last session of a 10 lesson sagat course I taught in Jerusalem and I felt like I needed to celebrate :)))
Here is a pic with most of the students, 3 girls couldn't show up today :( The color didn't come out right once again.

Re: What are you working on in January, 2011
sophie, you and your students look great! I would probably smile from ear to ear too if I could take a workshop with you, your zill clips on youtube are so inspiring.
I dug deep into the pile of unfinished projects and found a green velvet skirt that I made in 2006. I even marked the beading pattern on the skirt with white thread, before it got lost in costume limbo. I finally added a zipper, stitched elastic on the inside and made a start with the beading. My beading materials:

I did about 3 hours of beading and finished the pattern on the back:

Re: What are you working on in January, 2011
Thanks mekyria, you are welcome to come over anytime you'd like!
The skirt looks great, I love the color!
I'm heading off to Eilat tomorrow morning, haven't packed yet, ouch! Instead I finished a last minute project. I made this white galabiya six months ago, but it turned out too big. So I narrowed it today and added the lacing because the fabric is too soft and doesn't stay put on the body. I think I will stay away of lacing for a while now :)))

Re: What are you working on in January, 2011
Hey ladies
I have been searching and searching through the old threads to find the pattern Monika Mahreen uses for her skirts, but I cannot seem to find it (there are A LOT of threads and posts!
). I know a lot of people asked her to post a picture of the pattern she uses for her skirts so it must be out there....
Could anyone post the picture here?
Thanks!!!!!!!!!!

Great work being done by all. The mermaid costume is so creative and lush. Sophie, your "practice" costumes are to die for. They look really well made.
I'm nearing the finishing phases on this cobalt costume for a friend and troupemate.

Re: What are you working on in January, 2011
Well, I've started on my first costume (read: bought some of the materials I'll be reading...) and cuz I always have trouble uploading pics on Bhuz (must be doing something wrong...) and cuz it's easier for my friends to follow the proces/give advice, I've started a blog about it :)
When I actually start sewing and stuff, I'll try posting a pic here as well, but a few pics are already on the blog :)

Re: What are you working on in January, 2011
puchased some AB crystals and re vamping my favorite vintage fringe monster. the old crystals are tarnished from age(maybe cause they were acrylic). I am also shifting hooks and eyes on my costumes little did I know I lost weight on the belts.

Where did you buy 26 meters of strass-chain? The stores I have found charge more than I paid for a custom costume from Yasser.
