Hey Bhuzzers! I'm offering my services as a maker of bedlah bases and can cover bases. I'll have some pictures up here soon of my work, so that you can see if it is up to snuff for ya. I can also refurbish bedlah that are falling apart.

I can use a bra and fabric that you send me, or I can get all of that for you... whatever you prefer. I hand sew everything with heavy button thread and use heavy duty buckrams for belt and strap bases.

ETA: I can also mount those pesky brass coin costume sets for you!

That's great, I may take you up on that at some point.... Can you give some general price guidelines? (Obviously the difficulty of the material, shape of bra, and so forth will factor in.)

I'm thinking around $35 for making and covering a base bra and belt to measurement. $20 for just a belt base, $20 for just a bra base, and maybe $45 for making a belt base covering and mounting a coin belt. Plus shipping money to send it back to you. The only thing you have to send me is your fabric and bra... my buckram and other materials/notions are included in the price. These prices are all pretty flexible too. I'm very happy to work with anyone's budget.

I will also mount coin costume bras and belts. They can be a pain in the butt, but I've kinda got a system down now. For those brass/silver coin bra/belt sets I'm thinking around $70 to make a base, cover the base, and mount the coin set to the bra and belt. I should have pics up soon of one of my full completed sets. I'll post here when I do.

Great to see you made the leap! I wonder if Rosie would start a special section for this kind of thing? I'd love to see what everyone can do: it seems like we all have our specialty, myself included.

From what I can tell from photos your work is beautiful! Making/covering bases has always been my hangup. Once the boys and I are settled in to our new place I'd love to get a jump on that red bedlah of mine.

I'm interested too. Can you cover a bra with stretch fabric, too?

It takes me about an evening or two worth of work... usually one day to cut the belt and strap pieces and sew the straps onto the bra, and another day to cover with fabric if I'm taking my time. Depending on the work load I have, it would be a couple days to a week turnaround time.

They are both brothers... Looney and Pixel and they LOVE to help me when I'm cutting fabric. lol Thankfully, I have a sewing/office room with doors now, so I can keep them away when I need to!

Oh this is just the service I need! I have too much fabric stashed away for projects that don't get started because I am so intimidated by creating the bra and belt base. Look for a message from me soon.

That's a good idea... hrmmm... I'll have to see what I can do. I'll think up a potential lesson plan, logistics, and prices for a live class via skype or something.

This is exactly why I'm doing this! So many of us get stuck at the base when we have all these great embellishment ideas. I'm hoping this service will help many of you work through your stashes to create many pretties! :)

Yay! I have many projects stashed away that have gone nowhere over the years, all because I couldn't get past Step One: Covering the bra & belt bases ..... you're a genius! I love the embellishing part, but hate the covering part. (Same with cakes -- I've made wedding & theme cakes for sale & for friends in the past -- did not enjoy making the layers, but LOVED LOVED LOVED decorating them, LOL.

Once things get better, will see what I can send to you (altho' you'll likely be swamped with orders by then!) Best of luck, what a fabulous idea .....

Lol... I'm opposite... I like making and covering the bases, but decorating them, though fun at first, gets pretty old pretty fast!

Wait- did I miss something? Lesdi, do you actually make bedlahs or repair existing and/or cover bras and belts in fabric?
