Favorite products/home remedies for dry faces
Hi Ladies!
Anybody else experiencing winter dryness on their face right now? It seems like no matter what I do, I always get little dry spots on my face every year once January rolls around.
What are your favorite treatments and creams for dry skin? Sometimes I pop open a capsule of Evening Primrose and put that on at night. But it's too oily for daytime, so I'm interested in what everyone else wears as a super-hydrater during the day. Once upon a time I also tried a super expensive serum from Chanel that was pretty fabulous, but I'm looking for a cheaper alternative.Last edited by MoonlightBellydance; 01-20-2011 at 03:36 PM.

Re: Favorite products/home remedies for dry faces
I keep a small spray bottle of water handy and spritz my face with water when I think of it. Don't overcleanse, especially in the morning. Unscented baby wipes take most makeup off without stripping your skin.
I just make some yummy body oil using melted coconut oil, olive oil, and honey. I put it on right after my shower and dab a few drops on the dry spots on my face. It's been working very well on this winter itch the whole family has right now.
The recipe: equal parts coconut and olive oil (about a half cup each) and a couple teaspoons of honey. Melt the coconut oil in the microwave, mix in the olive oil and honey, let cool and put in a squeeze bottle. It thickens a bit the next day (that's the reason a squeeze bottle works best). If you want to scent it a couple of drops of lavender or patchouli are nice.
Oh! It works well on hair too! Just a tiny bit as a glosser. Rub a couple of drops in your hands and smooth it on.Well behaved women rarely make history.

I use pure sheabutter or beurre de karité - from an African nut called karité. It's important that it isn't mixed with other stuff. I have a product that has a fresh nice smell and it spreads easily.
Oh btw. you asked face...I use it on the body. will try it on the face now to find out :-)

This creme by Bumble Bee Studio is great. I've been using it every night (and some mornings) since mid November. Find the company on Facebook because she (owner) sometimes posts sales there.

I like Paula's Choice Skin Recovery Moisturizer -- it's not too expensive and a little goes a long way.
She also has a moisturizing masque which I'll slather on at night, sleep in, and rinse off in the morning. I really look yummy the day after that :)

I put a humidifier in my room to add some moisture to the air. I find that I don't need to use skin creams if I moisturize the air.

My face is very dry (part of this is because of acne medications). What works best for me is a little jojoba oil. I use it at night, but in the winter I put a little on in the morning. After about 15 minutes, I can put on my makeup.

Toleriane Fluid is the only thing that hydrates without giving me breakouts or irritating my skin. (but I have freaky skin :) )

I use Merle Norman cleanser with A complexion brush and also their moisturizer. I break out badly if I use anything else. I used constantly have breakouts until I started using their stuff. Now I'm clear and moisturized. I even get compliments on my skin which totally thrills me!

Re: Favorite products/home remedies for dry faces
I made my own face cream. One cup shea butter, a few drops of vitamin E, apricot kernel oil, grapeseed oil, and sweet almond oil.
This is my night cream and I find that it's good enough that I don't need a day cream.
