Belly Covers Under Belly Covers
I have a nude Sugar Petals body stocking on the way and I have dreams of costume matching belly covers.
What if I made and dyed my own using regular white mesh and wore the nude powernet Sugar Petals underneath? Would that work? Would this method also work for smoothing the stomach under a dress?
Thanks!

Re: Belly Covers Under Belly Covers
You could definitely dye a white mesh belly cover to the color of your choice. It's possible to buy them already made (in white) from Sugar Petals, but of course you could make your own if you prefer to do that. Since I'm lazy, I bought Sugar Petals ones in red, blue, green, and purple already dyed for me. I have a couple of white ones waiting to be dyed teal and burgundy, I just need to find time to do it!
What would be the purpose of wearing two at once? Are you aiming to make the effect more opaque, or are you hoping to result in looking thinner?
I don't think that wearing two at once would make you look thinner, but I think wearing one under a dress would indeed smooth the stomach.

Re: Belly Covers Under Belly Covers
For a great belly cover try buying the Capezio Professional Seamless Fishnets in color caramel in your size. Cut off the feet and or legs where you want and sew hooks to the waistband and eyes to your bellydance bra and pull up to your midriff and attach. It never shows on stage or until very closeup, smooths and hides those bits we don't like and this color goes with anyone's skin tone no joke. My dance partner and I swear by them and everyone always asks where we got it

I have worn my nude Sugar Petals under dresses. But I wouldn't want to wear two together, too hot.

Re: Belly Covers Under Belly Covers
The Sugar Petals is powernet. The mesh I want to dye is regular mesh with no special powers. I want proffesional looking, color matched belly covers with the smoothing of powernet, without the price.
That's why I want to layer the regular colored mesh over the nude powernet.

Re: Belly Covers Under Belly Covers
I'm wondering if the regular mesh wouldn't slide around on top of the powernet. That's an issue I think - it would actually look like two layers - also the regular mesh is thinner and you might get some show-through from the powernet.
I think it might be possible to dye the powernet itself though? If you need white I'll bet you could find some - maybe somebody knows?Sophia

I have a costume (an Aisha Azar Original) that has built in powernet and a regular not very stretchy mesh midriff over that. It looks great and does not slide around since it is built in.

It would be nice to have a whole costume that had "special powers"...

Re: Belly Covers Under Belly Covers
I purchased two nude body stockings from "Designs by Janie" and I LOVE one.

I do not sew and I did not want to deal with adding hooks to my bra, so I bought styles B and C. You really don't notice the shoulder covering at all! Style C was way too warm to dance in during the summer and it was a snug fit for my arms. I lost 150 lbs so I have extra skin and the suit smoothes my belly and stops the ugly fold of skin that would hang over my belt and give my bellybutton a frown. It is not noticeable in group pictures either. You have to know to look for it! This suit has really boosted my confidence!! She has some other color choices and I plan to buy more!

Re: Belly Covers Under Belly Covers
Thanks so much for the lovely review Articgirl! I agree the Style C is too warm for me to dance in during the summer here in Vegas too. I'm glad they boosted your confidence. Wearing a body stocking/belly cover is a comfort level thing.
BTW the mesh I use dyes well. Rit dye has been good for most of my customers over the years. Yes it does fade with washings, so you may need to redye in time.

Re: Belly Covers Under Belly Covers
I was wondering this, myself. I tried it once @ home, and it seemed to work ok, but I was too chicken to try it to actually dance in it that way in public in case something went horribly wrong.

Yes. Yes. Yes.
You're welcome!
To be a bit more verbose, I've seen several dancers use the powernet body stocking underneath and a nude fishnet over that. I love SugarPetals and have a couple, but sometimes I think I see some "sheen" that I don't especially love. The nude fishnet covers the sheen, while allowing the powernet underneath to do its magic!
And as far as I'm concerned, powernet IS magic!

Re: Belly Covers Under Belly Covers
I have seen Marmara dance many times and I have to say that before I shared a dressing room with her (*waves to Marmara*) I wasn't certain at all that either she or her dance partner had on any type of body stocking.
For myself, I would be more comfortable with the powernet underneath, but it's really amazing what just those fishnets can do!

Thank you for you comments ladies.

I can't wait to try this method! I have a white mesh stocking with rhinestone sparklies on it that I can test this hypothesis on...
