Thread: True circle skirt or tiered skirt?

Am trying to decide here. Going for a somewhat tribal/fusion look (would be using black cotton, not chiffon or anything). I prefer the look of a true circle skirt (like this one: http://www.etsy.com/listing/42432403...e-circle-skirt) rather than the tiered skirt, just for aesthetic reasons, but which would fly better/move more nicely with about ten yards at the hem? Is there a difference? I know the tiered skirt is more traditionally tribal, and my guess is that it's easier to make (though I'm not asking because I intend to make one; I'd be buying). Is that the only reason it's more common, or are there other ones? (Can you tell I pretty much know nothing about sewing?)

To me the tiered skirt is uber-tribal and if I were wanting to create a tribal or tribal fusion look I would select one in preference over a circle. They're not easier to make - there's much more sewing in one - but the tiers look really good with spins, gotta say. Plus don't forget that you can tuck them and play with them for a variety of looks. I think they actually sit better than plain circles when that's done, because of all the little gathers in each tier.

I bought one tiered skirt, and the first flounce is a cirkelskirt. The last two flounces are straight. At the bottom of the last flounce is a very small one from a inch. Because the first one is a circle it spins like a dream.
