Re: newbie's bhuz-induced adventures in mineral makeup... and about a million questio
that's what i like about the intensive formula.........since it doesn't have some ingredients like BE which are more drying.............as long as we all use a good moisturizer(which we should do everyday anyway) the intensive doesn't dry or settle.........
but honestly, minerals aren't for everyone.............my skin is REALLY sensitive, and everyday minerals are the only foundation i've found that doesn't break me out OR dry, and i've tried 'em all! LOOOOOVE MAC and smashbox for color though! especially MAC's pigments and smashbox liner gels

*excited* I just found a producer of paraben and talc-free concealer, foundation, primer, and powder...
Alison Raffaele.
I will be ordering some product to test on myself so I can see if it's good for clients! I'm happy to give a report later...
FYI, you can use dry minerals + moisturizer to give a more sheer application and/or if you are concerned about dryness.

Re: newbie's bhuz-induced adventures in mineral makeup... and about a million questio
Ok, I figured I might as well post a bit of a review of my Everyday Minerals free sample kit.
I ordered three foundations of the "intensive" type. Two work well for me, one a bit better than the other (Light Olive is better than the Fair Olive). They actually do a much better job of coverage than I ever expected, far more than any powder has done, and at least as good as any liquid foundation I've used. I even think I'm getting more uses out of the samples than they said I would, so it's not like I need to layer on tons more than they estimate you'll need. The concealer is surprisingly good too (Intensive Light). It's very yellow, but it doesn't look all lemony and nasty on my skin the way yellow cream concealers always do. Instead, it blends right in, and provides very good coverage. It even did a darned good job on my horrible PMS-assaulted broken-out skin. It seems to last a longer time than cream concealers do, too. The blush I tried was called Theme Park. It's very nice: a rosy gold that reminds me a bit of Nars Orgasm (though maybe a little less peachy). It blends very well, and seems to define my cheekbones (which I'll be the first to admit need all the definition they can get) better than many other blushes, possibly because of the fineness of the light-reflecting golden bits, I don't know. In short, I am definitely going to order more from them. I'm very pleased.

Re: newbie's bhuz-induced adventures in mineral makeup... and about a million questio
I use Lily Lolo cosmetics Mineral Makeup | Mineral Cosmetics | Mineral Foundations | Mineral Powders » LilyLolo and they are fabulous. The ingredients are also a lot more basic and less frightening than what you see in a lot of big brand mineral cosmetics.
When I first tried the mineral foundation, I wasn't at all convinced, it did seem to settle into the creases around my eyes and look cakey. However, with a couple of weeks of practice, I got the hang of it (it behaves very differently to a talk based powder, you can't apply it the same way) and now it's great, the real test was when I moved house and lost my foundation, and had to go back to liquid and powder for a couple of days, to me my "old" makeup suddenly looked really shoddy.
I use the flawless matte base powder first, which keeps the shine right down, even through the day. I apply foundation with a dense brush, in tiny amounts with a circular motion, building up until I get the coverage I want. I rarely need concealer, as it covers well, however if I have a really bad blemish i just apply a touch of the foundation with an eyeshadow brush, and blend. For evening I use a touch of Translucent silk finishing powder as a highlighter, gives a slightly shimmery look to cheekbones and brows.
The eyeshadow colours this brand does are excellent too, BD people would probably like pixie sparkle (peacock green) and indigo (shimmery blue-black); actually a lot of their eye colours have lovely shimmery or 2 tone effects.
In all though I think it's just about finding what suits you. I have true porcelain doll skin, and I find it very hard to get good colours a lot of the time, so my brands are often dictated by who does a pale enough foundation that doesn't make me look like a zombie!Last edited by Kash13; 03-27-2008 at 05:15 AM.
