Thread: What jewelry do you like for bellydance costuming?

I've been learning to make jewelry and would like to open an etsy store with jewelry for bellydancers. I'd love to get some input on what you all like and look for in BD jewelry.

Do you like kidney wire earrings, french hooks, or stud backs? What style necklaces do you like? Chokers, long fringy/dangly ones, or...? Do you like matched necklace, earring, bracelet sets? Do you prefer pieces with tiny beads or do you like chunkier pieces?

Anything you dislike in jewelry for BD? Clearly, really long earrings with heavy ends that would smack one in the face are a bad idea. ;) Anything else?

Swarovski crystals! colored too. I personally don't like chokers. I pretty much only wear rhinestones or colored crystals. I wish there were more upper arm bands on stretchy thread.

My wish list:
I like matched sets with lots of impact. I also like big sparkly (rhinestone, crystal) bracelets with some stretch that you can easily get on but don't move too much when performing. These are great with any cabaret costume I think and add alot of bang to your costume, especially if it doesn't have matching accessories. I would like for a set of two to be available at a good price so you can wear one on each arm.

Necklaces: I prefer them to hit around the collar bone.

I also like earrings without studs because I'm always losing the backs at the last minute.

Thanks so much for the replies! I'm a big fan of Swarovskis, AB finishes, and rhinestones as well, so it's good to hear that those seem to be popular among others.

Upper arm bands aren't something I thought about....but I definitely will be now. :)

From observation it seems like hook back earrings are most popular. Possibly because they'll just pull out if they snag on something rather than damaging the lobe.

Big, colorful, outrageous, and sparkly! Did I say big?

I prefer stud backs because French hooks are too easy to lose - but I simply put backs on my French hooks, problem solved.

The other consideration for earring styles is that stud backed earrings work the earlobe less, the earring swings from the ring on the stud portion, rather than in the earlobe itself. For light earrings, this isn't a problem - for some of the VERY heavy ones I wear - its a LARGE factor in comfort.
