What's Taking Bella So Long?
Ahhhh! I'm a little concerned. I know a bunch of people who have ordered Bellas and experienced unusually long turn-around times. One of my friends ordered in July, was supposed to get it in December, and her costume was held hostage in customs until January. Another ordered in October and just got hers this past Wednesday. I ordered mine around Christmas and still no word from Bella.
Is this becoming a new norm? Hopefully she and her family are OK and she's just busy making lots of beautiful sparkly costumes for all of her fans.Last edited by SatinWorship19; 01-28-2011 at 10:26 PM.

Re: What's Taking Bella So Long?
i just got one from her. it always takes her 6 weeks with me. it sounds like you should get yours soon if you ordered it around Christmas. Hoprfully it will not be too much longer.

Perhaps she has a couple big orders? ... like troupe costumes or a big order from a big name star or something

Re: What's Taking Bella So Long?
I've definitely been spoiled the last few times I've ordered, and only had a 4-week turnaround time to deal with! I just thought it was a little odd that some people I know have been waiting months. I'll keep you guys posted, and maybe go take a few deep, cleansing breaths while I wait for my sparklies

OK, speak of the devil, Bella says my costumes will be ready tomorrow and she'll send bank info then. I guess other Bhuzzers must just be having crappy luck or something. But yay for me

Re: What's Taking Bella So Long?
I was in Istanbul in the beginning of january. In this time Bella finished two of my orders, changed a third costume, I found there and made the fitting of my 4. costume and the change of the costume for my daughter. The last day Evin was very tiered, because she was the whole night in the hospital with her best dressmaker...she has had an operation of her appendix and was very ill. And everyday we where there, where also coming customers from Japan to buy costumes and let make the changes. On day a dancer from Libanon was there and bought 7 or 8 costumes...And in the background the woman where working really hard for all the orders....I have seen it. They work like crazy....

Re: What's Taking Bella So Long?
Oh my gosh.. Hope they get paid what they deserve!
I ordered a costume jan 11 (yay, my first Bella order!), and I emailed her a couple days ago, and wrote that I knew they were extremely busy, but if they could give me an idea about how long it would take.
I got a mail saying: Thank you for your email! You will have your costume soon!"
Have no idea what that means
But I felt kinda bad afterwards, it wasnt my intention to stress them, just wanted to know when to expect my sparklies. Like 2 months, or maybe 3? :D Lol
Now, my biggest fear is that it will be held in customs, and I have to pay houndreds of dollar to release it :S

Re: What's Taking Bella So Long?
Bella is known for treating the women on her staff quite well...and the cats (10? 9? 11?).
They're busy folks. They have the other boutique in Belguim as well to keep stocked. When I was in the Istanbul boutique/workshop there was a HUGE PILE (in garment bags, of course...cats) of things stacked up for Japan (we have Bellas in brick and mortar stores in Tokyo and most of the on-line stores for BD have Bellas now ready to buy.) There's a much smaller range of body types here in the procommunity, so it's easy to make readymade stuff for Japan AND the demand is so high Bella was talking about how she is now designing more for Japanese and Asian preferences (more waist bands, more fully accessoried costumes...) because it is easier to do so and remove for in-shop people who decide that is not for them than to add on. The staff helping fit me didn't speak English but we got by with Japanese in Istanbul.
So, ya know. all UR Bella belong to JAPAN.
Even without us, that is a MASSIVE amount of international work...the ready to wear the custom orders the no "series" of the same thing. That you get things custom made even if it takes half a year...pffft...is NOTHING.
Don't fret. Be thankful.

Re: What's Taking Bella So Long?
I placed an order about three weeks ago, and without prompting her for a time-line she told me it would be about five weeks. So, we'll have to see! Hoping to get it in time for a trip in late April.

Re: What's Taking Bella So Long?
You know, that was one of my theories. I'm just amazed that you can buy them through so many different distribution channels in Japan when you can only order direct in the US. Damn, maybe I'm living in the wrong country!
And you're right about being thankful. It's taken me 3 months so far just to refurbish all the paillette fringe on my vintage costume that belonged to Nadia Gamal. Having been through that tedious task myself, it's no small feat that Bella's atelier can finish such a large volume of high-quality costumes in such a short period of time (all while treating her staff so well). On that note, I'll never complain about the price of pre-strung fringe, either!

Re: What's Taking Bella So Long?
Argh...reading this is making me want to order another Bella even though I told myself no more until much later this year but if she's taking longer... *whimper* I'm scared she won't have time for little old me with all of her big customers that are buying costumes by the dozen!

Re: What's Taking Bella So Long?
I think you guys are lucky!
At least Bella can email you and let you know what's going on. I hear it's far more difficult even to get an answer from designers in Egypt. And I understand long waits. I am all by myself and when I look at my custom order list sometimes I just want to cry it's so long! I have all kinds of projects at the 6month, 9 month mark.
But bella is worth the wait right? Right!

Re: What's Taking Bella So Long?
On a general note, Asian dancers are taking over all of the costume designers in Istanbul

Japan, South Corea... you go to talk to any costume tailor and they will tell you "I just sent off a big box full of costumes to Asia!"

I'm sorry Ozma, but as a hardcore and dedicated geek I need to correct your quote. It's actually: "ALL UR BASE ARE BELONG TO US"
The "are" is very important! Hehe!
