Thread: Body stocking that covers the leg?

I am looking for a body stocking that covers the midriff but also has nude pants attached because my costume is spit up to the hip. Does anyone know where I can find one?

I like style 2 but I wasn't sure if it was see through or not. I either want one that has built in undies or one that you can't see through. Have you tried style number 2 or 4 from sugarpetals?

going to the bathroom when your body stocking is attached to both your bra and your shorts can be challenging. If I have to wear a stocking, I usually go for one I can pull aside when using the necessary.

If you are at all crafty, Jalie has a fantastic short-shorts pattern that I use to make dance shorts to match my skirt. I do pin or hook my stocking to my shorts, because otherwise the stocking does make it slippery & hard to keep things up, but just an inverted hook is usually enough to keep things in place with the heavy duty mesh Sugarpetals uses.

The Sugar Petals stockings are made of net or mesh, and therefore are see-through.

Lara raises a good point about making sure your stocking will let you go to the bathroom. If you go for this sort of style, it could be a good idea to insert a slit in the crotch that you can pull open when necessary....

Discount dance has many many styles of unitard that would work for belly dance. They even have ones that are footless if you don't want to have slippery tights on your feet. I actually started making them. Mainly because I have so many orders for dresses with open thighs and jeweled legs. I was originally just going to adapt a sugar petals one but they only make them in power net. grrrrrrrrrrr!!!! Talk about uncomfortable! I wanted slippery mesh I could bejewel - not fishnet. I also wanted to use lots of colors. I made a pattern from an old catsuit I used for class and I make them with one seam up the back. It's not so hard actually.

I can't imagine wearing a body stocking *without* power net! Then again, I have power-netty reasons for wanting to wear one! For the record, Sugar petals *do* come in lots of colors, but if the power net isn't want you want, I guess that piece of info is pretty useless.

Yes I think the power net she uses is a little extreme. It sucks you in waaaay too much I think. But mainly it's hard to jewel because of all the fishnet holes. I like jewels and beads on my mesh but I have friends who say they are the best!
I am also super picky about seams. I don't like seams up the sides and if it's possible to avoid them I will. I like one clean seam up the back. I bought an old bathing suit and cut it straight up the back and I use that as a pattern. I did the same thing with an old bike unitard cause sometimes you want built in thighs too.

I do pee before I put it on, & I don't know if it's nerves or what, but I always have to go again!

My Eshta is made with one of the Discount Dance body stockings...seam/zipper in the back though I don't recall if there was a seam on the legs...super comfy and breathable fabric - yes, you have to take care of restroom needs prior to putting it on - but it looks FANTASTIC!

Thanks for the link but I think those are really weird. The clear straps are bad and having built in undies just means that when your belt slips down it will show.
It should be sewn or securely fastened to your bra. No extra straps ever anywhere. Making them is really not a big deal for me. The discount dancewear ones are great but the sizes are very limited and I believe they only come in one color. Plus you ahve to modify them which takes time. But the weight of the mesh is great.

No, the clear straps are fine and invisible, and if your belt slips down that low, you have more problems than needing to wear a body stocking!

Having the snap there is awesome. Makes it easy to pull over your head (instead of having to pull it up over your hips) not to mention if you need to go to the bathroom, easy access.

I've definitely seen quite a few dancers with those clear straps showing and I find them way distracting. But that is just me. I am super duper picky about body stockings. If they aren't perfect I think they look like sausage coverings. eeeewwww

I hate gaps and seams and runs and straps and giant zippers up the back.

PS you know you can take the straps off right? and sew hooks/eyes to the top of the stocking and fasten them to the bra

Also, the straps - if you're any distance away they are next to invisible - beyond 4 or 5 feet - really they are not an issue.

Have you considered, ahem, adult shops? They sell a lot of full body sheer or net body stockings. Admittedly I haven't seen a nude one but I'm sure they exist.

When I need a body stocking thus far I cut up a fairly sturdy pair of tights in a suitable colour, tack to underpants and pin to the bra. So cheap, it doesn't matter if it runs eventually.

All a matter of preference... I like the extreme suck-in-ness of them. I don't see the point of a body stocking that doesn't give you a bit of help.

I'm super picky too, which is why I'd never wear one with the seam up the back! I find that look massively distracting and the feel of it uncomfortable. Not to mention that those of us looking for a bit of extra help in the waist-whittling department via body stocking get a better silhouette from the side seaming because the architecture of it tends to be more flattering, shape-wise. I've had a back-seam body stocking before and it just made me look like a thinner sausage... the side seams pull in at the waist, enhancing my curves, which is part of why I'm wearing the thing in the first place.

It's all a matter of preferences. I'm not trying to poo-poo your work... just saying that as picky as you are in favor of one detail/fabric/style, others may be just as picky in the other direction. It takes all kinds.

Exactly. Love them. AND they come in glitter, and are also the only place that seems to be able to match my (admittedly difficult) skin tone.

I love how this looks on you! But i'm confused, didn't Eshta post upthread that she made the stockings from a pattern that she made?

how was it getting the zip up when you dressed? Did you need help?

Geeeezzzz!!! Another thread gone to the dark side. I was just trying to help since I now have lots of experience with the body stocking issue and lots of people seem to have issues with them as well.
I'll be sure to keep my opinions and tips to myself.
