Thread: Easy Oriental dress ideas/patterns

I'm currently in a small choreography group (4 of us) preparing for a festival and we need to start thinking about costumes! Since most of us in the group are avid sewers, we want to look into making matching costumes. My idea was to make very simple, but elegant Oriental dresses. I have one dress as an idea, but I want more ideas. Does anyone have any ideas to add to the pot? Pictures you can share? Or perhaps patterns that you have used successfully?

One shoulder dress. 4 panels and a sleeve. Thin elastic at the neckline and one detached sleeve.




A good medium weight Lycra with its own texture and bling already in place. Self hip scarf. The fabric will make or break this since it is so simple and has no embellishments. Think Greek Goddess.

How about... starting with a princess seam dress? Those are friendly to alterations to fit many shapes... you could do some sleeve variations if desired... ?

I think this would be gorgeous on stage! you could embellish the neckline, add a high leg slit, arm bands or drapes...
