Thread: What is this silky belly cover made out of? Where can you get it?

My student is looking for this belly cover and I'm wondering if anyone has any information on it. It's different than the netting as it has a shine to it. Thanks!

I can't help you with the belly cover, sadly, but does anyone know the music of the clip? It sounds like "Boos Shoof" from Neena & Veena's Essential Bellydance, but in a very beautiful version!

it looks almost like high gloss tights (panty hose) material to me. I have a pair of hold ups that have a similar sort of finish. There appears to be a seam up the back, too.

The body "net" in the video appears to be a reflective synthetic. You might look for a soft nylon netting with reflective properties too. Good luck! Sometimes the biggest challenge of reproducing a vintage look is sourcing the vintage fabrics :/

My guess is that it is similar to what panty hose (support hose?) of the same era would have been made from. The synthetics on the market now are more breathable and comfortable than whatever Suhair probably wore. See-Fit (http://www.see-fit.com/) carries a crystal Lycra that would give a similar effect. If Janie pops in, she might be able to clarify whether her flesh mesh has a sheen to it, or if you'd have to go up to a metallic in her inventory (http://www.designsbyjanie.com/bodystocking.html). Sugar Petals carries metallics and a white iris that you could dye (http://www.sugarpetals.com/body_stockings.asp). There may be other vendors out there. If you can find nude or dye-friendly white Illusion and you want to make your own, this would work, too.

Just to check, is your student sure she wants a sheen on her stocking? The slightly reflective ones seem like a good idea, but in practice they aren't always the most flattering. If she's looking to minimize her middle at all, matte finishes and darker colors recede, while shiny finishes and lighter colors tend to highlight. Of course it depends on the purpose and the look she's going for, but I thought I'd better throw that out there. :)

Hi Suzana!!! I miss you but I'm sure I'll be seeing you in Philly in Nov!!! Good point on the shimmer. This student is in high school and just doesn't feel ready to expose her belly. So the shimmer is what she wants. :) Everyone had some great advice here so we should be able to find something. Hugs to you.
