Thread: Great loop or icicles??

Hi all-

I am wanting to get another gold bedlah set but am torn between the Pharonix Great Loop or the Icicles set. Opinions on both. If anyone has any closeups of the icicles I would love to see them. Thanks!!

Oh girl, I know! Am interested to see the general opinions too...have been leaning towards the Great Loops these days, but like the Icicles too...oh, the pretty silver Loops, seem to be more easily distracted by their bright-and-shiny-ness-ness...

This is coming from someone who has neither, but I keep reading that the new Great Loops are coming apart way faster than older ones did, and the Icicles are worth every penny. If it really was an even toss-up for me between the two, and I liked both equally, I'd go with the Icicles.

I haven't seen the Icicles close up, but I love the look of the Loops. I think the swoops and loops suit my curves

However, I do like the fringe on the Icicles belt!

Maybe I shold just get both LOL!!!

Why not!

I sold my great loops because I am not long waisted enough for the bra loops, and I didn't care to take loops off of it.
Also, I had a second generation set-not nearly as many stones, although I felt the quality was there.

This has been my experience with the Great Loop, sadly. Mine is absolutely beautiful, but EVERY time I wear it I lose whole loops of fringe or a giant stone falls out. Soooo disappointing for a set that cost so much money! It's been heartbreaking.

I have also heard the newer GL sets have cheap stones and fringe, And honestly, I don't care for the saggy-boob look that you get with the GL. I like the style of the icicles much more (not 100% but significantly more). I'd say they are more flattering, youthful, and modern. But that's just my 2 cents!

I don't think I get the saggy boob look from my Great Loop. At least not anymore than my other costumes.

I like my Great Loop, but I agree with Lauren. Mine is a newer one (well 2-3 years at this point) and is from the Belly Dance Store. I've lost some fringe and have been able to sew it back in place. However, I haven't lost any stones.

I do like the Icicles too, and almost bought one, but I decided to get a bedlah from Dahab Designs instead and I was very happy with it. It has the look of an Icicles without being as expensive or as "cookie cutter." (Not that I mind cookie cutter, I like the popular style costumes.)

I've had 3 generations of the great loops. Loved the stones on both the 1st & 2nd generation loops. The new loops has slightly smaller stones but they stay on better than the old big stones in the pronged setting (had to glue in place to prevent stone loss). Fringe is holding up the same on the 2nd & 3rd generation sets (1st generation was sold a while back & I dont remember much loss).

I love the look of the ice-cycle <sp> sets but have yet to buy one...

Personally, I think the ice-cycles are fresher looking to other dancers but to the G.P. it wont make a difference. Go for the first one that called to you (or as mentioned above, get both if you can)

I LOVE my gold pharaonics icicles bedlah! It's held up really well to the punishment I've given it since November. Not a single strand of fringe has fallen off and it is completely encrusted. The jewels are all AB, so they pick up other colors nicely and work with just about any skirt. It's my new go-to workhorse. The only disappointment I've had with it is that the medium sized crystals are in pronged casings instead of directly sewn on like the big stones. The prongs have come loose on 3 stones so far, but luckily, I was able to recover the fallen stones and put them back in. Before I use it next, I'm going to put a little nail polish over these pronged ones to prevent that in the future. The sew ons and rhinestones are great though and not "sticky." and the beading has held up marvelously. I get a TON of compliments on the set.

Nice dancing. So languid! I like the icicles more than the great loop I think. They are both pretty but there are SO MANY loops on the GL.

Yup... definitely love the icicles and recommend over the GL if you prefer bling.

Thanks for you comments ladies :) I snagged myslef a Copper Loop on the swap and I think I will grab a gold icicles set next time theres one st the BD Store :)

You can let them know that you want one before they get their next shipment. I did this early enough, so they even let me do a custom order for it through them at the same price.
