Skirt lenght questions for custom ordering.

    Hi =)

Couldn't find any old threads about this.

I've never ordered a "fitted" skirt, only chiffon skirts.

I ordered a Bella with a strech velvet/chiffon "kombi" skirt, and my bum actually took a inch from the lenght. (so it's a little short on me)

I bought a lycra skirt here on Bhuz, and it was 38 inches. I usually wear 35 lenght (chiffon). My bum actually took 3 inches of the lenght, so it fit me perfectly. But it was way too long on my teacher (whom also wears 35 lenght chiffon) that has smaller hips than me.

So, how do I know how much strech there is in the fabric that my designer will use. And doesn't it depend on how small the costume is unstreched? Because if it sits loosely on me, it will not strech as much? And therefore not get so much shorter?

My english is terrible, plus I'm not really shure how to explain myself :D If anyone can understand what I'm writing, and my question, please help :D

    Really? No one?? :D

For reference, I my measurements are:

    Upper hip 36 inches
    Lower hip 40 inches

Lenght from upper hip to floor, 35 inches.

Your English is great! I totally know what you are talking about.
I don't think there IS a formula because of the variables - how much stretch the lycra has, how much it conforms to your curves etc.
BUT, if there is no beading on the bottom of the skirt you can always hem it... so it's always safer to order too long.

You kinda get the feel for what length you need based on trial and error. I've had 41" skirts that were barely long enough because they were fairly tight on me and 39" skirts that were too long because they fit a little loose. I've gotten to the point where I can kinda tell based on the hip measurements of other costumes if the length will work for me or not.

    Depends on fabric, stretch, etc.
I'd imagine i s could depend on how bloated (in stomach) you are each day

same for me (trial and error)

    31" chiffon circle skirts
    34" trumpet/mermaid/tight

for resale though I try to to 35" chiffon skirts and then I hem or roll/sew the extra inches and for trumpet I can do 36" and hem from the top

Bella's great about custom ordering and communication so maybe ask her to hem it to a certain length but to leave a bit extra in the hem just in case? Also, if it arrives too short, you can always add a layer of chiffon underneath and trim it to make it look like part of the design... that should give you an extra inch... hope that helps and post pix when you get the new costume!
