anyone ever made their own knee pads?
Im contemplating making some for our troupe = all the ones I find for sale are either huge and will be visible through out pants or they are very expensive.

I would think anything thin enough to not be visible in tight fitting pants is going to be too thin to be useful. We bought some from Dancewear | Ballet Shoes - Discount Dance Supply but we wear them under voluminous harem pants.

I've been using some midweight leg warmers doubled over and pulled up to cover up knee! Works like a charm and new sewing involved...

Re: anyone ever made their own knee pads?
I was reading back over my skating forum to see what everyone does there...I know some of them have made their own versions of the expensive-but-good gel pads. Couldn't find any of the threads where it's discussed in detail, though. However, someone in one thread linked to these...$15 and they seem relatively thin, if the "9mm" designation refers to the thickness of the pad.

I would think the legwarmers over the knee would be a good idea. Also, I made some once with some mens' tube socks. Cut them off at the ankles and pulled them over my knees. They worked, but I really only got one or two uses out of a pair because my knees stretched them out.

Yep - for floorwork! All the slidey, crawly moves are hell for knees - especially on a tiled floor.
Thanks for the leg warmer tip - we'll give it a go!
