Unhappy Are white costumes a bad idea on a really white person?

I'm really white but I've fallen in love with Sandra's Crystal White Bella Costume and Bella still has it on her website. Would white be a bad idea? :(

I would say that it depends on you and your undertones. I can carry off white really well. Blackest black, too. Some people, due to the undertones of their skin, simply can't.

And if you want to know how fair complected i am, we used to have to have my foundation custom mixed because Ivory wasn't light enough!

Well, you could just adopt my attitude that a white costume is ALWAYS a really bad idea. Period. But I'm one of those people who just looks at white and it starts turning grubby.

I do wear a white skirt sometimes layered with other colors, but it doesn't have any decorations so it's easily washed and cared for.

i can wear it, and i'm see through. (pink undertones)

I can wear white but even though I'm not super white, I don't think it is the best costume color choice for me unless I have a tan. I look better in strong jewel colors when I'm on stage. Always keep lighting in mind. If you can wear white in real life and you aren't dancing under strong stage lights, you can probably pull it off.

I have a yellow undertone and look horrid in white but good in off white/cream colors.

I am pretty white, fair skinned, and I LOVE white costumes. I have owned and worn several, and they are always well received by audiences.

I'm in the same boat as Norma. If I wear my white costume its 1) when I've got a bit of a tan (summer) and 2) in a safe-environment where it's not going to get grubby and dirty... but that's just me!

I have also real white skin, no blush in it. But I like white costumes so much and it`s look like a fairy.

It also depends on your hair color. I find that pure white looks really good on fair skinned gals with dark hair, but not good on fair skins w/ light hair (blonde like me)... though I think off whites look really good on both (and me).

I'm super, duper goth-pale and I love white! No other color makes me look as dramatic or beautiful and I've gotten nothing but compliments when I wear white. I do have black hair though and that plays a huge part in how good it looks.

I do agree that hair color has a lot to do with it...more than how dark your skin is. I personally don't think that pure white costumes compliments blonds and would rather go with creams and light golds or even nudes.

I think it depends on the venue too. Stage lighting can really wash out a person's skin coloring AND the costumes. But if you do private gigs, the effect is very different.

Lovely Samira Shuruk has some gorgeous new pics on her website. Even with very fair skin, she wearing a beautiful white and silver costume and the background of the studio shots is also white. The result is stunning!

I always feel like bright white makes my veins stand out--I'm also pretty pale (understatement) and neutral skin tone, edging slightly more towards the pinker side. If I wear white, it has to be *exactly* the right shade/intensity, so that I don't look veined like marble or worse, jaundiced, as some off-whites will do to me. For myself, I'd buy something white that I couldn't look at first hand only if there were a solid return policy in place.

Yep, with white, you need to find the shade that works with your skin (like finding the right shade of red lipstick). There are different shades of white, some can make pale skin seem more alive, and some will make pale skin look sallow and drab. I'm blonder and paler than I appear in my avatar, yet when I find something in the perfect shade of white for my skin tone, it's one of the most flattering colors I can wear. Depending on your skin tone, the correct white shade for you can actually make the skin appear more vibrant and healthy by contrast, and can be a great bathing suit color as well.

Whether your white costume is trimmed with gold or silver is a factor here as well. In most cases, a gold trim on white can help mitigate the "washing out" factor for those with fair skin and lighter hair, but there are a few fair, cool-complected ladies who can pull off the white with silver, particularly those with that wonderful combination of very dark hair and porcelain skin.

Makeup also becomes a more important factor than usual in making white work with fair skin - it's more important than ever to step back for a long-distance look at the mirror and make sure your blush, etc. are helping to create an overall vibrant look.

    Squeeee. Thank you!!
I can rarely pull off white, but with my hair now darker, it's easier. I think in my case contrast is in order. When my hair was lighter I only liked white costumes with good, strong accent colors, providing some contrast. Now my hair provides that. If it helps to know in making your choice- My skin is so pale that only a couple brands carry foundation that is light enough. Concealer is also really difficult to find. My skin has yellow undertones, but is really translucent, so you can see veins (vampires LOVE me! lol). I have to be really careful with color choices. Just like anyone- the right ones really pop and flatter, others are just OK, and some are uugh! awful.

I am extremely white, and was surprised at how good white costumes look on me. For reference, I have light brown hair, gray eyes, and coloring that's rather neutral (as opposed to being noticeably rosy or ivory). It's worth trying one on to see. And have a friend with you for another opinion.

As above. Buy just a plain white bra, or t-shirt or something reasonably cheap like that, and try it on. See if you think it's that bad, and if you're not sure, ask a close friend whose advice you can trust.
