Hi,
I have to admit, I sweat when I dance. Usually not a problem on a lycra or velvet costume, but I'm considering buying a silk costume (one of the new Emans or the soon-to-be released Dahlal line) and I'm wondering how badly this will show with thin silk (which could potentially stain)? Has anyone else had any experience with this that might help me out before I shell out a month's rent?
Thanks!

Re: Silk costume and sweat from dancing?
HI Nuriya, do you know what kind of silk it is?
When I was making the silk choli tops I'd sweat in them too..it didn't leave a stain but a wet spot would immediately appear under my arms and sometimes in the cleavage area. Wasn't pretty. Then again I had a lycra costume back in those days too and I had butt sweat along the crack..sorry I'm certain that's too much info but especially light colors show wet spots really easy

Re: Silk costume and sweat from dancing?
I have worn those silk cholis many, many times, and indeed, it is obvious when silk gets wet ;-) It dries super-fast, too, which sure helps.
I always wash my silk tops after use, with warm water and a bit of shampoo or mild soap in the sink. Usually, before I take off my makeup, since I read somewhere that sweat and silk are not supposed to mingle for longer than they have to. With that in mind, I would be a bit weary of a costume that one can't just easily give a quick rinse after every use.

Eman's silk costumes are all lined with another fabric to avoid the sweat/silk problem. I don't know how effective the lining is in practice, but it looked like it would do the job. Also, her silk costumes are just beautiful!

hmmmm... that wet-spot freaks me out. its unsightly to say the least... guess i will have to keep the silk to a minimum in my costuming (ie veils and maybe a skirt under a bedlah if possible).
Thanks!

Re: Silk costume and sweat from dancing?
I haven't had a silk top, however I have had costumes that were not supposed to be washed (I know, I know, I bought before I thought!), after a couple of wears it got a bit on the "woofy" side, and then it was suggested that sunlight would deoderise it - it worked! So now I turn it inside out and hang it in the sun until the smell goes away. Some sort of chemical reaction occurs to break down the smellyness - anyone know how it works?
Shimmying with curiosity...
