Thread: Ghawazee coat pattern

Does anyone know a good pattern for a ghawazee coat? Ideally one that looks flattering on bigger busts :)

I like the one called Al-Zahra’s Ghawazee Coat by Atira. You can get them from Scheherezade Imports: Atira's Fashions (35)

They tend to run a little small, so make one size up.

This is the pattern I used, it was relatively easy, and the V neck option would probably work better for you.

in a pinch you could modify the Turkish Dancer pattern

I've never made it, so I can't comment on whether it's good. But I thought I'd mention it.

I have Atira's Al-Zahra's Gawazee Coat pattern. I will sell it to you for $5 plus postage. It was used once years ago and has just been lying around in the envelope ever since.

I didn't sew it, but I was about a size 12/14 then. I had someone sew it for me.

Al-Zahra's is good. I had to adjust 2 sizes up, but it worked and I have a nice coat. I had to make it complicted and make it reversible, lol

Oh! Thanks for starting this thread! Big busts and all I am hoping to join a bellydance sewing group, as soon as the day and time are agreed upon. I was thinking about what I should work on, and this has reminded me of the gorgeous brocade fabric I bought to make a Ghawazee coat a few years ago. The pattern I got was for a size 12 and I have expanded a bit since then. But I love that Al-Zahra pattern! And to think you can buy it off Amazon!

I'd kind of like that Turkish folkwear outfit just to wear...
