It's A Headband, Not a Sweatband!
For the love of all that is holy I swear I want to scream every time I see the models on Dahlal and BDStore wearing the headbands as though they are going out for a jog or like a Burger King crown.

Re: It's A Headband, Not a Sweatband!
I think theyre either going with the bad headband trend from a few years back (think Nicole Richie) or showing the design more from that angle (you can barely make anything out when its sitting proper in a pic? I'm hoping its the latter...

Well, with that second one... huh, it is kind of thick, but then that whole costume is just asking for poking fun. Strange. I think someone was having a long day.

As a slightly more serious answer, maybe there are hair pieces to be taken into account? It could just be more practical to wear these pieces in a slightly wonky way, to avoid rearranging elaborately pinned, supplemental hair.

I wondered about this too. I figured the vendors were just trying to show the headband off a little better. But, what's with that WAHB (Wide-A$$ed Headband) on that Eman from Dahlal? That's just hideous.

Re: It's A Headband, Not a Sweatband!
When I see models like the first one from the Belly Dance Store, my first thought is that they are not dancers, have never performed the dance, and just don't know how to wear it.
The second one - well, the crazy headband is the least of the problems with that one. I don't know how you would wear that headband. But any costume that makes your boobs look cockeyed and lopsided isn't good.Belly Dance to the Music of Americanistan

Re: It's A Headband, Not a Sweatband!
I agree - I find that style really weird. But at the same time, Eman seems to be really proud of it. She's got a page on Facebook where she not only shows pics of her designs, but also includes her remarks about them. Maybe it's because it's really hard to make, and really hard to copy? I'm not sure.
But hey, if there are dancers out there willing to buy it, or who are relieved to finally have a costume out there perfectly designed for their Picasso boobs, then that's all that matters.

I actually find the paisley-boob-costume quite beautiful. It wouldn't work for me as I have a very wide chest, but I admire it nonetheless.

I am a little unnerved by that bra as it's so distracting--think about it, when the audience sees this what are they going to focus on.

Re: It's A Headband, Not a Sweatband!
sometimes i use those pieces..wrist, head, neck, band to make belts larger for the client. you can set then into the sides
i have used a headband cut in half to fill in when making a bra larger.

Re: It's A Headband, Not a Sweatband!
I just figured the purpose of modeling them that way is so you can see them better, especially the beaded areas in front, which get partially hidden by your hair when you wear them the normal way. I wouldn't wear one on top of my hair like that for real but as a shopper I like getting to see more of it.
Sorry, I guess this is a no-fun response. Throwing a wet blanket on the

Re: It's A Headband, Not a Sweatband!
i figured that they've got little time, are trying to photograph all those costume in as short a time as they can to keep their costs down and prevent needing to add costs to the final product.
i'd rather they spend their money on customer service (which i've found to be very helpful & polite) than an extra hour of model time to get the headbands on right.
just so long as i don't have to watch people dancing with them on like that ^_~ :P"there is a bit of insanity in dancing that does everyone a great deal of good" -Edwin Denby

Re: It's A Headband, Not a Sweatband!
Well, thank goodness I never wore a headband in that fashion for bdstore. I'd have to be offended.

Seriously, though. The practical and positive minded folks have it right.
Costumes on and off on and off on and off does a number on hair (real, wig or "assisted")... and headband UNDER the hair just adds to that. The girls (some dancers, some dance students, some models) all know how they go, but this is a way to see the headband decoration without messing up the hair even more.
Except for that turbany headband on the new Eman style. That's meant to be like that.
Personally, I just don't model the headband most of the time.
It's just the way it is that no choice will please everyone.
We would have to apologize for extra messy unkempt hair, apologize for wearing it like a hippie or apologize for not showing it.

Re: It's A Headband, Not a Sweatband!
two reasons to be distracted in this costume...
Now I understood the reason of the headband looking like a sweatband, BUT I still don't understand the designer's choice of the HUUUuUuUuge V shape on the.... front?
Am I the only one to see it?
