Arrow Stop the Squint Look: Help me with my deep set eyes!

Have seen a lot of still photos from recent shows that I've been in, and in almost all of them it looks like I'm squinting or my eyes are almost closed. Since neither is the case, it appears that I'm simply having trouble getting my eye make-up right.

I have dark blue/grey eyes with short lashes and lids that completely drape over the crease of my eyes. Plus, they are deep set to begin with.

I've read all about stage makeup, but most of it doesn't seem to apply, because when my eyes are open, making the lid fold over, it covers half the makeup anyway.

Any & all tips welcome. (PS- The photo is not from a show, but is a good shot of my eye shape.)

I'd suggest doing a gigantic smokey eye. My stage makeup smokey eye extends my eyes about 1 inch past my usual smokey eye (for going out with girls or something). Also, I wing out the eye liner like crazy and always put on fake lashes (big strips). Stage lighting makes everything look super small and washed out. So put on your makeup, put on some more, and then some more. You know you got it right when you feel embarassed going to Target with your stage make-up on.

I have eyes similar to yours. False eyelashes are essential. And putting eye shadow above the crease, if that makes sense. I put eye shadow in the crease but also make sure it shows above the crease.

I use black liquid eyeliner on top lid and bottom lid, then go over those lines with dark eyeshadow to soften and hide any imperfections in the line.

I use a light colored shadow just under the eyebrow, on the brow bone.

    I darken my eyebrows.

It seems to work, I get compliments on my eye make up, even though I don't think I am an expert by any means.

Blush on the cheeks also enhances your eyes.

I think these 2 steps are key for those of us with deep-set eyes.

Try to stock up on the big showgirl lashes during Halloween (or better yet, right after when they're on clearance!). My favorite styles are spiky looking: it adds interest and dimension....not just a wall o' lashes.

Where on the lid should the bright color go?

What about glitter? Could that help?

I would not recommend any dark eye shadow for you. It would only make your eyes look smaller and more closed.

What you need is to brighten your eyes to make them appear larger and more open. Try bright colors like hot pink, turquoise, coral. But use the highly pigmented eye shadow. Then a striking dark line of eye liner on the top lid only and false lashes. I bet this would really make your eyes pop.

Jungleflowers, do your eyelids completely disappear when you open your eyes? Mine do, and I recently figured out that using eyeliner around my whole eye helps a lot. I was always afraid that putting liner on the bottom would make my eye looks small, but it makes my eyes appear more open. I'm still trying to figure out how to effectively use eye shadow though because it completely disappears once my eyes are open.
