I cant believe no one pointed this one out yet...

"Belly Dance Costumes | Belly Dance Store.com: Tribal Fusion (12005)"

    Its listed as Tribal Fusion.

(Dont get me wrong, I LOVE the Bellydancestore!!!! But this one has me totally perplexed. . . )

I don't know any Tribal dancers who would wear that atrocity.

What's wrong about that costume? I don't know much about tribal wear...
Ok, it's not very pretty and too expensive!

The full listing doesn't give the name of the designer, but the price makes one curious. In all honesty, if I saw someone show up at an event in that, without knowing otherwise, I would have thought "HobbyLobby," not "professionally made costume for $645." The asymmetry and randomness of the design bother me, especially the visually unbalanced use of bright red on the left cup. I also wonder how uncomfortable those tassels hanging off the bra would feel while dancing. I picture them being hot and scratchy against bare skin. I suppose there are tribaret situations where it would make sense, though.

That is not pretty. There is no clear design element to unify this costume. It just looks like doodads sewn down randomly. The top is completely lopsided, which is unflattering. The tassels look like they were slapped together quickly and attached as an afterthought to make it more “tribal.” I think it would be very ticklish too!

Hey, add a couple of gears to it and you can call it steampunk!

I wouldn't call that tribal, I'd call that a hot mess.

Looks as if somebody got drunk and then told his friends: "Of COURSE I can do a tribal fusion costume, let me show you!"
I have seen other attempts at "tribal" costuming by people who didn't really understand the philosophy behind the concept...

I made an outfit very similar to this when I was 8. As I recall, mine was slightly less "colorful."

I saw the one on Dahlal as well. . . it looks only slightly less tragic than the one at the BD store. I have to wonder though, is this how Tribal and Fusion costumes 'look' to a people from the Middle East? (Of course thats a broad generalization, but I know that some of the tribal costumes even look like that to me at times....)

I love alot of the skirts and tribal pieces on Dahlal. But I also dont consider those to be related to whatever this thing is that has turned up on both sites ;-)

Wow, that is literally painful to look at. The closer I looked, the worse it hurt. And yet... somewhere out there is someone who will see it & buy it. I am always amazed when certain costumes walk out the door.

What happens to costumes that no one buys, anyway?

Well that appears to have been slapped together from random leftover bits and pieces. It's definitely a leftovers kind of costume.

"Fusion"? I'd say that's accurate, if by "fusion" you mean "look what dreadful work a deranged mad bellydancing scientist hath wrought."

Not all dancers like "pretty" but I can tell you there will be dancers who will love this. Seriously.
