    How-to Convert Halters to X-Back

I know this info has to be on Bhuz somewhere, but I'm not finding it.

How do you convert a Halter Bra into an X-Back Bra? Most of my halter costumes have long straps, but not quite long enough to reach the back bra band. Do you use arm/ankle bands to help extend the straps? Elastic? Grosgrain ribbon?

I'd love to hear how you all have done it!

    Thanks!

Yeah, they pretty much have to be lengthened. I was in a hurry at one point and used bias tape, but usually I like to cover buckram and try to match the beadwork. or I take off the original halter strap and replace it with new straps so I don't have to worry about matching. That makes it sound like I've done this a lot- I've converted 3 halters

Thanks, Lara L, this doesn't sound too hard. Now, just to give it a try...

I use a length of wide grosgrain, doubled or tripled, as a base and then cannibalize the ankle bands or cuffs or their beads. I usually use fusible interfacing between the grosgrain layers to save some time. It's not completely trustworthy on its own because body heat and perspiration can weaken the bond, but it works as a shortcut since I'm still going to be whipstitching the decorated layer to the grosgrain, if not beading through it.

For the costume you're working on, would it be enough to add extra straps down the back from the halter to the band as discussed on the other thread? If you like the look and it gets the job done, it's an easier option because you don't have take the halter apart -- you're just adding straps, not changing the existing ones. I can show you how it worked on my gold set if that would be helpful.

Suzana, Love all the how-to details! Just what I'm in need of. Much appreciation!
I think it would totally work to add the "inverted V" off the back of the halter strap of the costumes I'm revamping. I would LOVE to see your gold set to get a better visual!

And, thanks for connecting the two threads. I started this one before finding your "alter halters" thread.
