Don't love the costume I ordered - better to sell right away or try to let it grow on me...

So I ordered a custom Trimmed in Treasure / Ishtar and I don't like it. It's a beautiful costume, but the color turned out to be too much like the cranberry Sultana I already own (turns out eggplant and cranberry are the same color, who knew!). I also think I would have to buy - for my own modesty desires - another skirt or pants to go underneath and it galls me to have to do that when I just paid ~650 for a costume.

The question is - should I learn to love it? Try wearing it for a show, see how it works? I'm pretty sure that, to wear it, I'd have to alter the hooks.

Or should I just package it back up and see if anyone wants to buy it?

Or even suck it up and pay the restocking fee to return it?

    What would you do?

Eggplant and cranberry the same? Crazy. Purple and Red? A guy must have made that ad, LOL! If you don't love it, haven't worn it, send it back saying you expected a different color and send them a sample of what you thought the color was supposed to be based on their description.

How much is the restocking fee?

What's the accent color? I've tried this style on agree that you'll probably need an underskirt or pants.

Don't make a decision until you're in costume hair and make-up and can put it on and take a photo. Then you'll know if you love it enough to keep it.

It's Eggplant/Orange. I liked the idea of the orange costume - I almost wish it had more orange. I think orange harem pants could make this costume work. With the thin skirt, it feels a little chintzy and cheap. I think in a way, I was just expecting more bang for my buck. Or at least an underskirt!

To answer the previous person, I think its not the same but fairly close to the burgundy. Eggplant, I suppose, is a brownish purple and burgundy is a brownish red.

My spouse hates how it looks on me so I guess that does it.

I would demand that they don't charge you a restocking fee since it wasn't the color that you ordered... eggplant is a purple, cranberry/burgundy is a red, so I definitely think you have every right to stand your ground and get it returned/replaced without extra charge.

But ... it's the whole style I don't like, as it turns out. Basically, it's one of those costumes that looked like it would work for me on the model, but once I tried it on myself, it wasn't good. Although in my letter to Dahlal, I did point out that my main issue was with the skirt itself. Maybe they will offer to replace the skirt.

It doesn't change the fact that Nepenthe should have gotten exactly what she was expecting, but I actually love this color combination. Also, I'm most definitely not a man. (I checked.) Diff'rent strokes....

If only the cups were bigger, I'd buy it. It probably won't stick around for long!

Actually I love the color combo too, but I recognize that two costumes that are burgundy-ish with v-shaped belts, short fringe, and full skirts is not enough variety - might as well only keep the one I love (the Sultana) and look for something really different (what I really need is a dress!).

I am 1000% with you on that, and as much as I love the Pharaonics Arabesque skirts I can't justify that much money on something that see-through. I'm actually quite appalled that a skirt that costs $300 is that thin! I'm always layering several skirts and harem pants so I don't look cheap and tawdry because of sheer bottoms, and I can't fathom how Pharaonics thinks that's an OK look.

Sorry for the digression. I did see your costume in the swap and it is GORGEOUS. I hope you get a happy buyer.

I've never seen a burgundy Sultana, wow! Love Pharonics burgundies, love that style. That would definitely be the one to keep.

Hey, why not post an ISO for a dress if you haven't already? Some of us are spring-cleaning our closets. :)

Actually, the Pharaonics Arabesque skirts come with under-skirts - I love them for that. At least the two that I own do. Thank goodness because otherwise they would be ridiculously see-through - like all chiffon, really. I wish this costume had come with an arabesque skirt instead.

I was just going to say that. The Arabesques I've seen all have either two layers of chiffon attached at the waistband or one layer plus a separate underskirt. Are there some that don't?

There is a cheaper version that they make without the underskirt. I forget what they are called.

Nepenthe, it looks fantastic to me in the photos in the Swap Post. Is it possible it really is a treasure but you're having a strong reaction to the fact it's different than what you were picturing before it arrived? If I were you (and could afford to do this of course), I'd put it away for a while, let the original expectations and reaction fade, then pull it out and try it on again.

    Just a thought,
    Rosette

If I boil it down to mostly being disappointed with the skirt, then maybe there is something I could do - of course this requires spending more money so I think I'd rather sell!

I'm wondering if it's worth salvaging by ordering either this skirt to replace the skirt I don't love with this:

or putting these harem pants underneath to again - make it look better and less nudie.
