Smile What are you working on in May 2011?

April was pretty exciting, with a lot of different and gorgeous projects.

Meissoun posted her silver and red costume project. Love the lining!

Andalee continues working on her brown/pink Bella costume. The beading on the belt is almost done.

I can't wait for Zeevah for her update on the Peacock costume.

Mlacombe did a beautiful remake of a blue Airport special costume.
If you want to read more about April, go to the WAYWO April 2011 thread.

Bring it on for May! I've been working on a matching bra for my green velvet skirt. I found some left over god beads and decided that beading with rhinestones and seed beads will look so much better then bugle beads and sequins, like I used on the skirt. Pictures will be uploaded soon!

Well - Im almost at the end of my recovery time for an operation I had and I cant wiat to get working again. Boredom has been a major issue so Ive done some beadwork for some of my orders, saving the machine sewing for when Im feeling better.
    1. Reworking a green 2 piece costume I started a few years ago. I sold the original bra so I had to make a new one and Id really like to make a seperate belt for it but I dont have any more of the accent fabric. : (

Here's a pic of the costume before.

Re: What are you working on in May 2011?

oh.. I as hoping to get in here this month- I have a lot to do!!! Unfortunately work is picking up which means my days off for unemployment are dwindling and my project mojo with it.

    <sad panda face>

but- I am still working on my great loops knock off- slowly- I have new fabric for the base and my iridescent sequins.

I also am making a super simple straight skirt/bra set which I'm loving the look of right now.

little rouching detail- I was stupid excited about this- I love the silver- but it was a bad choice- very difficult to see- but I'll leave it anyway since I like the design of it. I don't know that I'll live it right here because of visibility but I want something there!

and I need to make a pleather bustier thingie for a sin city style photo shoot with a sweet ass Triumph Street Triple. WOOT WOOT_ thats in 10 days so I need to hurry the FAK up on that one!!!

sorry for the pictures- photobucket is being ridiculous- or I haven't had enough coffee yet LOL

Can you believe it's already May?
I somehow managed to finish this one with my newborn at home.

    It's all mirrors.

    Belt red gold black.jpg

Sudden burst of inspiration, red, black, gold. There will be some kind of headdress and gauntlets if I have enough material.

The belt will have gold trim, red and black sequins detailing (and possibly some gold beads salvaged from a fringe tassel).

ooooh, nice! Basha, I can totally relate to wanting the silver accent on the skirt. Consider it your good luck charm, even if the audience doesn't see it you know it's there for that extra bit of finesse.

I've been beading a matching green velvet bra to a skirt that I made in 2006. Trying to get all my unfinished projects out of the way. I went with a different beading technique for the bra and I'm totally in love with it now, as opposed to the bugle bead/gold sequin beading on the skirt that I did in January. A sneak peek of the beading on the bra:

Thanks for the shout-out Mekyria! :) Great work!

I finished the belt this weekend (minus the lining). This week I'll start working on the bra.

    Progress pictures!

Okay, so I have been working on this for awhile, finished it this week, and showed it on the weekend. This is a 1:1 scale model - I dressed the dolls, built the scene, made most of it, bought a few pieces, and got raves about it. The dancer in the scene is "technically" dancing to the drum beat, but ... well it just "read" better with the veil over her arm so I took a "liberty" LOL! No one can prove she is actually swinging it around...;)

Thank you ,This was our club project this year and for display at our annual Miniature Enthusiasts of the Central Okanagan dollhouse mini show and sale this past Saturday (this is my 6th year displaying my projects, of various themes).

The dolls are "Heidi Ott" brand, I bought them in various states of undress (the male model was nude when I got him, and he was lurking around the garden that way until I figured out clothes for him, LOL!, the female doll was in leopard skin underwear, headband and heels ) from Victoria Miniland here in BC (Victoria Miniland if you are interested - Alex has some great offerings in his store) . Love the dolls too because they are articulated and obviously can be posed, and they have so much character.

Re: What are you working on in May 2011?

    I have good news!!!!

My blue airport special remake (aka my baby blue) might be making a little trip with my instructor/troupe director Aurora Ongaro to Morocco for the Mediterranian Delight Festival!!!

She won a trip and entry to perform as her prize for 1st place in the "So You Think You Can Bellydance" competition..

She asked me to borrow it for Morocco just the other day at rehearsal, and i think i hyperventilated and screamed lol!!

Other than that, still trying to find fabric for my friends remake of her dinner plate disaster bra.. I have sent off fabric to a lovely company called Tutu.com who make Tutu's and costumes for many companies (including the moscow ballet)... if they can't match it no one else can!! I highly recommend them, as they have rhinestones, swarovskis, patterns, and every dance fabric you can think of!! and the woman i spoke to on the phone was so very lovely..

Basha those sequins are lovely, you're silver fringe is looking fab too. I usually start from the smallest loop and end with the longest but your method looks better - you end up with more even sets of loops.

Re: What are you working on in May 2011?

I have a photoshoot on Saturday, so I'll be able to post some recent goodies in a few weeks.

This week a crazy idea pop in my crazy mind: I would like a few pics as a mermaid dancer! I already have a gorgeous turquoise mermaid skirt with gauntlets and I decided to made a mermaid bedlah THIS WEEK!

Anywoo, it won't be a dance bedlah but just for the photoshoot. So it's more crafting then sewing: fabric paints, Gem-Tac glue and acrylic stones, and oodles and oogles of fake pre-stringed cheap pearls!

Pics of the last minute project to come this week.

Aw thanks- I was really excited- i'm thinking I might have to get more- I'm not in love with the flat to be honest- the cupped ones catch more light- but I'm excited either way- this is my first seed bead/sequin project!

I started on the inside for all but one- and I don't know who told me that it changes the shape of the swag- but its really noticable how different they are. whistles to self <one of these is not like the otttthhhhhers> :)

I'm going to use the inside > out ones for the bra- gives more up and down shape and the outside > in ones for the belt- which is slightly more flattened out and wider.

Mirrors are pretty easy to come by. I got them online at a regular type craft shop. They aren't expensive so you can use quite a lot of them for a disco ball effect. The hard part is really mounting them and finding the type of settings you want to use.

THE BELLY BUNNY COSTUME... It's Hopping Along!

BELLY BUNNY COSTUME... It's Hopping Along!
Still plugging away at the Belly Bunny costume for Beyond Wonderland. Rennie has found it challenging to sew with the rabbit fur, and to get it to 'curve' around the bra. I have been expiramenting with hand gluing the crystals and matching fur roses on it and we're debating on how big is too big for my 'big ass' tail (and ears). The bra is white and pink bunny fur.

I bought the looped fringe and 6 inch straight fringe from a vendor on ebay for $51 and it turned out to be almost good as the pharonics costume fringe. Strong thread and it doesnt fall apart! We changed the belt style from a corset belt to a stretchy bustle style belt to give it a 'cabaret steampunk' feel.

Here's some pics of it in progress... I'll have a few more later this week!

I love it too! And the rhinestones look delicious as well, did you buy them as a three strand strip or did you sew single strands next to eachother?

I bought a 3 strand trim at MJ Trimming, it was a bit pricey but no where near what the price would have been if I bought a costume with that many AB crystals on it. I got 2 yards for about 150. I think it's a little pricier on the site.
