why stolen photos don't bother me anymore

I'd like to thank the many dancers who have forwarded me links over the years of manufacturers using photos from Home - Gypsy wear and belly dance silks to represent their products..it caused some concern for a while until I researched it.

This is one of many companies that has helped themselves to use of my photos,

I love how they have a copyright over my photo :)

Out of curiousity I asked them to send me a sample of my work (I did this with a few companies that claimed to be able to reproduce my work) , what I received back was something so horrid I had to dye over it and sell it as an oops

    This was their "Merkaba"

    Point made :)

I do realize waiting on handmade art takes longer, I can't always meet deadlines and that's why, for right now, I'm not offering custom services..I'd much rather you receive something authentic. I do use a 'catalog' of colors to show similarities between color designs but it's important to know they all come out a bit different. Factories can't reproduce my art..not unless they used the technique I use which was self taught.

One of the reasons I insist that the veils are uniquely hand made and not dyed by the bolt is that I know dancers like individuality..we go to great lengths to pick out costumes and music that will be different from others.

Just be cautious when shopping on ebay or ordering from a large company with employees..that could be a red flag that what you are getting is something that is represented by a photo but won't have the authentic touch to it. If too much of the art work gets delegated out ..who's doing the dyeing? And do they have a reputation of delivering what you see and expect?

good post. I am in the midst of copyrighting my design work before I sue a former independent contractor who wrote for me. That person is promoting my work as their own. No, no I cannot allow that. The brands I've created for my niche market clients (wind energy) are unique and successful in the marketplace. Lawyers and copyright registration are expensive though.

They sure are expensive! And it's time consuming to fight them but in your case I can completely understand why you would pursue it..

They've gotta be kidding! That's atrocious! Not even CLOSE.

Jesennia, I love your work. Honestly I feel that word of mouth is VERY important in our community... ladies know quality when they see other dancers with your veils! Girls also know about "Buyer Beware" when it comes to some ebay stores!

Maybe these amateur photos will cheer you up... out of the 9 girls with veils on stage, I bet you can tell which are the ones you made :)
