Thread: Looking for tutorial on how to make a beaded crocheted hip scarf...

Hey ladies

Does anyone know of a good tutorial on making a beaded crocheted hip scarf?
(So a beaded scarf, and the beads are on some kind of crocheted net...)

Preferably something simple, as I not that good in crocheting (yet!) but am up for a challenge...
So I kinda know how to crochet, but don't have a clue as to how I should add beads on there....

What my mom does:
just string the beads onto the thread you are going to crochet with. When you make a loop you want a bead on, slide one of the beads down to the appropriate spot on the string. I have no idea how she calculates how many beads to string before she is going to have to tie on a new length. I hope someone will post something more descriptive- I haven't done this, only watched.

If you are just learning crochet, it's best to practice with out the beads for a bit.
Get used to how you hold you fingers, and make sure your tension is even.

As for 'knowing' how many beads to string...if it's the same color/size bead I don't have to worry (and when I come to a bad bead that's not acceptable I would crush it off of the thread).

As for the patterned beading...a LOT of planning!

What size beads/type of scarf are you thinking of?

I was thinking starting out with trying to make a normal triangular hip scarf, with 3 mm beads... crocheted in loops.
I'm good at crocheting straight lines, but have never done loops, thats why I said I need a good tutorial

I did not have any specifice pattern in mind, as I did not know what would be easiest or what response I would get...
I'm open for anything really...

I'm in Belgium, so I don't think Iowa is an option...



but one of my dance friends just showed me how to do it, sort of, so I'll be trying that out.... (crocheting in loops), anyone know how to crochet in a fan pattern?
