Smile Afros! Anybody dance with one? How do you decorate?

I just did my first ever performance after my big chop with nuttin' but kinky hair! I wore my bestest costume (my leopard Bella) and tied my hair back in a small puff accented with a sequined hip scarf.

I know, I should be shot for posting this without pics, but I wanted to open it up: Anybody got any tips for decorating short hair/kinky hair that just hasn't grown into that lush Dianna Ross-ness yet? :)

There's an article on my web site written by Dina (the Costume Goddess) on hair style ideas for short hair: Ask the Belly Dance Costume Goddess: Ideas for Styling Short Hair

Maybe one of those will suit you! Good luck!

In my previous troupe, one of our dancers had a smallish afro. She pinned a flower near her ear and left it simple. The flower matched her costume and had a few rhinestones on it. It was very elegant.

I'd worn my hair that way before I got locs -an afro-puff with a sparkly scarf and dangly hair pins. Something like this - https://www.dahlal.com/default.aspx?...7&s1=1253&s2=0
I've also seen dancers with short 'fros decked with flowers or rcrystal hair pins. It's a beautiful look. Good luck with it.

I always loved flowers or sparkly barettes/hair pins. I'd also do some double strand twists and then pluck them out to give my hair a wavy texture. Headbands are great. Also ... glitter hair spray.

All of the above ideas are great!!!
I love seeing flowers (or scarves) that coordinate with the costume. It's a beautiful way to "bring the party" up to the hair and it's very feminine.
