Man, do I feel your pain. I hate it when I see Joann's is having a 50% saleon their clearance fabric cause I KNOW I'm gonna end up there and I KNOW I'm gonna buy lots

Re: Not allowed in the fabric store unsupervised!!!
You guys have it easy. Try living in Los Angeles and having a garment district close at hand. Including stores filled with beads and rhinestones. . .

Re: Not allowed in the fabric store unsupervised!!!
I think that you all guys have it easy. Try living in small city in Central Slovakia, with almost no shops. I have to order every single bead, crystal, fabric and everything else from internet (95% from foreign country). That is also reason why I need one room for my sewing material. I am ordering large parcels :)))

M & J Trims is like crack for bellydancers/designers. I used to live 1 hour away from the city!

DC Dancers - What, no one goes up to G Street Fabrics anymore? When I lived in Alexandria, that was like Aladdin's cave to me!
And anyone who wants to come to LA shopping, feel free. Of course, this does mean that I have to get an apartment. . .

Re: Not allowed in the fabric store unsupervised!!!
My name is Steffi and I am a fabric store addict.
Those fantastic stores in NYC kinda give me a sensory overload and I tend to stall. Can't decide. A while ago, I made a trip to NYC with a friend, and it was a crazy adventure - I got some good stuff (colored elastics for my zills from Pacific Trimming, cool velvet at Peron, silk from Mood, and an iron-on rhinestone hamsa from M&J), but did not go completely over board because I was so overwhelmed by the selection. To me, going to a fabric store has a bit of the same quality as going to a museum, with the difference that I can talk loudly, touch things and sometimes even purchase the object of my desire ;-)
I was at G Street Fabrics in Rockville last summer, and while it is of course way better than our local JoAnn's, I did not feel quite the same sense of awe and love that I had at Mood or Peron.

Re: Not allowed in the fabric store unsupervised!!!
I understand!
I go through periods where I lay out intended projects and refuse to allow myself even to LOOK at fabric until I finish the projects that have been laid out.
Otherwise I'd never get to buy new stuff...
Hahahaha

You know what? Instead of telling me how much unused stuff you've got lying in your cupboards, tell me that you're actually *using* your stash, and post it in the WAYWO threads!

Re: Not allowed in the fabric store unsupervised!!!
In the Philadelphia region there is a family owned chain of discount fabric stores called Jomar. Their stores are warehouses full of bolts of fabric, you never know what you're going to find, and if you don't buy it now you may never see it again. Sometimes you go and find absolutely nothing helpful, and other times you leave with four costumes worth of fabric for $1 a yard. It's insane.

Re: Not allowed in the fabric store unsupervised!!!
I can probably beat this. I WORK in a fabric store! My husband jokes that I spend more in there than I actually earn! *cough*he's right*cough*
My stash has gotten so big that I actually have to get rid of some of it so I am making up some costumes to sell off, but honestly I won't use the money to buy more stuff. Honest..... Really.......

Re: Not allowed in the fabric store unsupervised!!!
I went to Joann Fabrics today because I needed hook and bars. That's all. And hey, while I was there I may as well get some button and craft thread. I need that. And look, here on the clearance rack is some gorgeous olive/moss green velvet, with a moderate stretch, a crushed line pattern and tiny gold specks of shine on it, obviously put here by God for me to make into a bellydance costume.
Yup. Got my hook and eyes. lol!

Re: Not allowed in the fabric store unsupervised!!!
obviously- the lord reached down and put that right in your path- it was destiny.... :D
its beautiful- I can't wait to see how it comes out!
I'm tapped for this month- board and rent are due and I just spent 60 bucks on bugels and swarosky's... trying something new and different with some bling bling. kind of excited- but mostly nervous- probably why it's still just sitting there. beading skaaares me!
