Jewelry Storage?
How do all of you store your jewelry? I've been accumulating more and more jewelry, and right now I just keep it all in a big drawer. I know that's not ideal because everything keeps getting bumped around and necklaces keep getting tangled. I think I need some inspiration to get organized!

Re: Jewelry Storage?
My system isn't much better. I have a large shoebox that stores my jewelry. The one thing I do is I have each set stored in a quart sized ziploc bag. That way I can just grab the bag and know I've got the necklace/earrings/other pieces alltoghether when I throw them in my gig bag. Just make sure to allow the pieces to dry thoroughly before zipping the bag closed.

Re: Jewelry Storage?
I collect a lot of vintage jewelry and I buy these medium and large Riker mount boxes to store a lot of things. I think some people call these "butterfly boxes" because collectors use these for specimens.
They are nice because they have a clear top so that you can see what's in there as well as the flocked fluffy stuff inside to keep things in place so that your pieces don't bump each other.

Also, these wire necklace displays are great for keeping things relatively tangle-free.

Re: Jewelry Storage?
I am lucky that I can keep my treasures out in the open, they are just so much fun to look at and serve double duty as home decorations. Many of my Kuchi and Turkoman pieces are hanging in shadow boxes, which are similar to the butterfly boxes. For my Indian bangles, I have a bangle stand (like this ONE INDIAN WOODEN BANGLE STAND / WHITE WORK | eBay), and I have a necklace holder stand with many arms for my rhinestone jewelry. That one was a previously pink yard sale find that looks expensive and luxurious after two layers of rubbed bronze spray paint ;-)

Re: Jewelry Storage?
Hi!
I use those boxes. I think, they are called multi-storey-boxes. Mine are from IKEA and you can take out or put in those little plastic-thingies that divide the box into several areas (difficult to explain) to make more room within the box if you've got some bigger jewelry pieces.

Re: Jewelry Storage?
Joann's has these great, snap together stackable storage boxes made of clear plastic (I originally purchased mine at Office Max, but they stopped carrying them a couple months before Joann's picked them up, so look around all over the place!)
I love these things! I use them to organize my make up, my jewelry, my hair stuff, my beading supplies- and my favorite part is that I can take out any layer and snap it together with what I need- so I can grab my make up basics, snap on my (insert color pallet here) make up and jewelry and my (insert event) hair accessories and head out with a nice, compact, ORGANIZED case.

Re: Jewelry Storage?
These are some good ideas. At the very least, I can at least start putting things in zipper bags! I think I might need to get some of those plastic sorting boxes.

Re: Jewelry Storage?
I make jewelry and accumulated lots of it. My husband just got me a jewelry armiore as a gift. It He got tired of all the little boxes on the dresser in the dresser drawers etc. Plus all the organizing I did still had to search for stuff.
It did the trick organizes everything nicely. I purged a lot as well,. I found stuff i forgot i made or had and wearing again. I never had one before and I love it. They are costly. But Target or Walmart usually has them cheap around holiday time
also I forgot to mention Michaels sells plastic and jewelry organizers now...Last edited by mehndidancer; 06-07-2011 at 03:02 PM.

Re: Jewelry Storage?
I have them organized in little plastic bags that can close (the one your used for food). One bag has all the jewels belonging to one costum. All the little bags in one plastic box and voila, organized.

Re: Jewelry Storage?
If you get the tiny, plastic zipper bags (like these Reclosable Storage Bags 2"X3"-100/Pkg, Shop Joann.com--anywhere that sells jewelry-making supplies will have them), you can put multiple pairs of earrings or other small items in a storage compartment without worrying that they'll get tangled or separated.

Re: Jewelry Storage?
Karnak, I messaged you on FB with pics of my new organizer. It's a hang-on-the-wall thing.
I made it from a picture frame. I took out the glass and put in 1/4-inch hail screen using my man's muscle to staple the stuff in. Then bought S-hooks at the hardware store to hang in the screen's grid.Last edited by nadyasidhe; 06-12-2011 at 04:35 PM. Reason: sorry, my link did not work

Re: Jewelry Storage?
My grandpa made me a doll cloth Armoire one day. I kept it all this years because its so nice and he made it for me.
Now it is my jewelry storage, and it is really handy, thx grandpa. the hanging thingy underneath is dish rack if found in Italy, good for bracelets.

Re: Jewelry Storage?
Wow, Georgine - this is impressive.
depending on the amount of jewellery you have, I have different suggestions. For earrings or necklaces I am with Nadyasidhe - get a large enough picture frame, cover the base with one layer of thicker fabric, and one layer of something net-like (tulle, for example) and then you can use it to hang your earrings or pin your necklaces to it. Will keep your things together, organised and looks pretty.
For more and bigger stuff I suggest checking out the boxes for tools/nails/screws etc. from construction stores. They usually have compartments of different sizes, open from the top displaying everything you have in there and have a handle to carry them around.

Re: Jewelry Storage?
I remember my mother use to have an egg box inside her top drawer to store all her bits and pieces of cocktail rings and other cheap blings she didn't want to get tangle.
Hum! I think I going to recycle one for myself. He, he, he!

Re: Jewelry Storage?
The egg box is great idea for all the tangle stuff. I also found a piece of wood/branch I use for hanging my earrings.
The pictures reminded me that I have to sort thru my jewelry :-(
