Crushed Cups
Hello! I'm getting my first Oriental costume worked up for performances in July. I have made a fabulous silk charmeuse circle skirt and am trying to psych myself out to show some serious leg! It's been a beading frenzy around here...
The skirt will go with a beautiful Pharonics bra & belt set that I purchased used from a Bhuzzer. The large cups have been crushed and fold in on themselves a bit. I think part of the problem may be the beaded design on the cups - the shape of the designs seems to foster a crease between the motifs, which was surely amplified from shipping in a box.
My plan is to saturate the cups heavily with my steam generator, wrap softballs into the cups, and allow to dry completely. Does this seem logical? Would you take a different approach? I do have some millinery stiffener that I could apply under the lining if necessary.
Thank you in advance for your feedback! Annessa

Re: Crushed Cups
Steaming and forming them around soft balls is a great idea. If you're worried about them not drying quickly or deeply enough to prevent mold or mildew, try covering them in dried, uncooked rice while they are wrapped around the softballs. It soaks up moisture and other than a little rice dust, won't affect your costume. The same solution works for cell phone that are mistakenly dropped into water.
Got any pictures?

Re: Crushed Cups
Citrus fruit also works in place of soft balls. They also have weight so you can hang the bra cup design side down, which will help gravity to work with the other materials.
Yes, you can break out the jokes about lemons, oranges, grapefruits. . .

I actually went to the store in search of pommelos before posting!
I'll post pics when I get the set done - I'm debating making a crown now...
Thanks!
