    Danshuz Hermes Sandals

I just bought my daughter some Danshuz Hermes Sandals, and before she even has worn them, while we were unwrapping the laces, 2 of the gromets on the heel piece fell out and are riding around on the laces. Is this a problem? The gromets don't seem to be put in very well.

Do other dancers who wear these sandals have this happen, and does it make a difference in the performance and longevity of the sandals. I am hoping to figure this out soon so I will know whether it is just the way the sandals are and don't worry, or if they should be sent back.

The grommets in one of my shoes fell out a few weeks ago too, and it hasn't caused any problems or made the holes tear. I wear them a little over 3 hours a week in classes.

The thing that I didn't like about my Hermes sandals was the hard, awful leather straps that came with the shoes. I immediately replaced the straps with soft suede lacing.

Hrm. I bought some years ago and they've held up well without any grommets coming out. I wonder if they have changed the way they manufacture them.

I too replaced my laces immediately with lengths of soft suede - my local fabric store had lots of fun colors.

They're supposed to prevent the leather from stretching out of shape. They're easy to replace though so that is an easy fix.

    (Thirds replacing the laces.)

Same thing happened to me, replacing them isn't that difficult though if you're using the single piece grommets insert them from the inside so the pokey side ends up on the outside away from your foot.

I've replaced the laces in mine several times to match costumes: my current favorite material to use is metallic rattail cording. I braid 3 one yard lengths and wrap the ends with clear tape as tightly as possible. Not as soft as suede but I like the look when going barefoot or ballroom dance shoes aren't an option.

Thank you all for your advice. My daughter really likes the idea of replacing the laces, she has been rather tepid about the shoes, but new laces will help her like them.

I'm glad to hear that the gromets can be either lived without or replaced. I'll need to check the fabric store and the tannery shop in town for laces and replacement gromets.

    Thanks

One material that can be nice for laces is satin rattail cord. Or, grosgrain ribbon. Satin ribbon is also nice; however, it's less durable than the other items I mentioned.

The next time your daughter is in the market for new sandals, you might consider the ones from Aruba's Oasis. I own several pairs in a variety of colors and like them much better than the Leo/Danshuz/Capezio ones: Aruba's Oasis Sandals: Leather Lace-up Belly Dance Sandals And Arubas come with very comfortable laces!
