Help with Amar Gamal costume please
Hi there,
I wonder if anyone can give me an idea how this skirt would be made please.

It's the costume that Amar Gamal wears in Bellydance Superstars at Folie Bergere.
It looks like the front flap part is a quarter/half circle all in one piece with that front section, but I'm not sure how it joins in the middle. If anyone can help that would be great. Many thanks.
Sorry the picture isn't the best with her lying down so it can also be viewed on Youtube
It's really tight at the top and ruched at the front, with a kind of mermaid bottom and a split at the front with a flappy thing that flaps about as she dances
Would appreciate any suggestions as how to make this. Many thanks.Life is a dance, from one stage to the next...

Re: Help with Amar Gamal costume please
It's hard to tell from this pic and video, but in my opinion it a straight or mermaid skirt with a godet panel in front. If you google godet skirt you will be able to find principle on how to make this skirt. Hope it'll help, good luck with making it ;o)

Re: Help with Amar Gamal costume please
My guess is that it is straight panels with gores, and the section in the front is much longer and fuller than the ones on the sides and back. The question is whether the front panels are longer to account for the ruching, or if the dip in the front beltline in itself accounts for it. I'm thinking they probably are a little longer.

I have the same costume in a different color. I'll see if I can find some pics of the skirt.

The skirt reminds me of the ones depicted in Ancient Egyptian paintings.

You may want to look into how those are made. It might spark something you have not thought of.
To me it looks like a straight skirt with an inserted panel in the front.

Re: Help with Amar Gamal costume please
Thanks so much for your help Ladies - I'll check out style you suggest and also the website. And also have a look at ancient Egyptian styles too - I hadn't thought of looking there either.
And dear Basil1 if you could possibly find some pics of your skirt, that'd be great.
Once again - thanks for taking the time to read this thread and offer your advice - very much appreciated.
Have a great day
