Arm drapes, what's your preference?
I'm making arm drapes, and am unsure which band making method would be most comfortable and secure. The elasticized variety or the heavy duty snap sort? I don't like to use velcro as it can catch on my veils.
how do you guys make yours?

I prefer elastic.
When they start to slip with elastics they are too loose or the elastic is too soft.
But I owned 2 costumes with stiff upper arm band till now and they either slipped or popped open even with pairs of really large, heavy snaps.

A really wide elastic for the arm band is my preference too. although, you can make an elastic arm band with a hook and snap closure if you like getting into them that way.

Re: Arm drapes, what's your preference?
How buff are your arms? For many women, it is difficult to balance the elastic tension to keep the band in place without being so tight that it creates a bit of a "muffin top" effect. Even if you are unusually muscular through the arms, it is more comfortable to build a little give into the band (and it helps prevent the band popping off during a moment of particularly dramatic arm tension). As a general rule, the less muscular your arms are, the better it is to go softer and/or wider on your elasticity. There's more information about the different types of elastic here Sewing Elastic -- Types of Elastic -- Avoid Sewing Elastic Mistakes -- Sewing Elastic Waistbands. Whether you choose to use elastic all of the way around, or just a small insert on the inner arm is a personal preference.

Re: Arm drapes, what's your preference?
I usually like to make mine of pellon (because they are heavily beaded) and then I either do a hook (like the big ones on the back of the bra) or sew it into a circle and tack elastic inside. I'm not a fan of the big elastic because it tends to lean towards a sausage effect. I find that the thin, 1/4 " elastic is more than sufficient for staying up. Plus, I tack it in the middle of the arm band so that if there is even a remote sausage-effect, it is masked by the rest of the arm band. Also makes it super easy to replace if with time it stretches out. Hope that helps.

I've just cut out my chiffon doughnuts and remembered I posted this question last night, thanks heaps peeps, I'm going with the elastic then as I don't think muffin arms will be a problem.
I had to look up what pellon is and although a great idea for future projects I think the elastic will be sufficient.
