What are you working on in July 2011???
Hi!
The new month has just begun here in Europe and I'm absolutely curious about your new/ongoing/future projects.
I'm adjusting a golden Bella for me. I had to insert a piece of one of the gauntlets to make it wider - that is a hell of a work concerning rebeading and sewing, but it looks great, up to now. I'm quite proud of me...

Re: What are you working on in July 2011???
Sahira - post before and after pics if you have them.
My July is filling up fast. I have a whole pile of projects and then some!
I also have a vineyard costume to work on with hanging grapes, a secret butterfly costume, a peacock one, and a teal one, and a hot pink beledi dress.
Here's my pile so far. I am almost done with the magenta lace one. I just have to finsh the fringe and put mirrors all over the skirt. I am also doing a polka dot beledi dress. It's a little crazy over here!

Re: What are you working on in July 2011???
Nice work, ladies!
I'm back to sewing after a long hiatus. First project is Turkish inspired costume. Today I started with the vest. I used the basic pattern that I drafted a couple of years ago for a ghawazee coat, cut the parts, sewn the darts and assembled the front and the back. The edges are still raw, I'm going to sew a lining tomorrow.
The fabric is a very thin corduroy with a fun print.
First fitting (looks like I would need a dart on each side for a closer fit):

Re: What are you working on in July 2011???
Most of the work had been done in May and June, but since I sew the last set of hooks today, well here it is:
It's a costume my friend bought from lovely bhuzzer Teresa. My friend wanted a more silver accent on it than the gold and pearl (original).
Pic before:

I made 7 medalions, swag fringes, add more ruching at the top of the cups for more coverage, change the elastic straps for straight halter ones and finally, I add hot fix stones clear and eggplant tone.
Voilŕ! An other happy customer

Re: What are you working on in July 2011???
Well, I am thinking of chopping this up...again.hannanhirez1.jpg
I can't seem to sell or trade it, and if I just shorten it from the bottom (to my length) it will eat up all the flair. I would have to cut 7 inches off.
I'm thinking of chopping it at upper thigh level and attaching circular black silk chiffon panels.
The bra needs a lot of tweaking too to fit me well. The cups are a little too wide.

Re: What are you working on in July 2011???
Thanks, Lilith!
I finished the vest today, complete with lining. The lining is a thick cotton and it is more than 40 years old *gasp* My mom bought it at least that long ago, but never got to use it. I'm glad I get to wear it!
Anyway, I think I've gone tribal unintentionally :)))
Still got lots of work: embellishing the bra, sewing a belt and possibly another skirt that would cover the ruffle madness that I got in Tel Aviv's fabric district. It's two skirts, one on top of another, made by a very sweet woman. I fell in love with them immediately and had to have them.

Re: What are you working on in July 2011???
A friend brought me her brand new costume to do some ajustements: make the hem a inch shorter, adding elastics on the upper waist band and try to make the bra fit.
The said bra is a Sahar style and those could be a real pain in the *oops* to ajust.
Even if my friend is very petite, the side straps are so narrow that is makes muffin tops on each side. And, the halter straps were praticly sewn in the middle of each cup! WTF
So after replacing the two straps, I suggest we salvage the headband to add pieces of fabric diagonaly, starting from the outside part of the strap to the bottom of the "not large enough side strap" like this:
But after she left, I though it was a bit plain looking. So I add beaded embellishments to match the work on the rest of the bra so it would look more part of the costume itself. Also the beading hides the seam of the add fabric. Tadaaaah! (I think she's going to like it!
)

Re: What are you working on in July 2011???
Wow, all these costumes are gorgeous! I just finished putting tassels on a tribal belt. I'm not sure how I'm going to finish the closures. I tried ribbons but it looked bad so now I'm thinking bar clasps and some sort of decoration.

Re: What are you working on in July 2011???
Great job Qamar!
I am working on my jeweled butterflies in the garden costume. It's silk woven butterflies and flowers and after I jewel them I am mounting them on the belt which is black lace over shiny black lycra. Each butterfly and flower is different. I am having so much fun!

Re: What are you working on in July 2011???
This got done a while ago, but I've been very distracted by a long hair forum lately. I've started on the skirt, but decided to undo it all again because I wasn't pleased with the results. Beading like this really tight makes the fabric underneath form a dome, which was great for the bra but didn't work for the skirt. Looked like there was a belt sitting on top of it, which isn't bad in and of itself, but not what I was after.

Okay, went on a treasure hunt today to look for thrift buys to turn into costumes. I can't figure out how to take a picture that the file is small enough to upload so I will attach the photobucket link

Re: What are you working on in July 2011???
No, it's knee length, and I bought it to make a bra/belt set out of it. But it's 100% beaded on both sides and I only paid $8 for it.

Re: What are you working on in July 2011???
Wow, Jennifer, it looks great! The fabric is fabulous and I love the little gauntlet. Great job!
I am mostly done with the belt for my Turkish inspired set.
Before

I bought this skirt during my first year in the US ( that would be 2002, almost 10 years ago!!!). I never wore it...
The process:

Today I seam-ripped the skirt from the belt, tucked the front of the belt a bit to create a thinner front and sewed it. Then I cut the lining and sewed the seam so it won't fray. I also reinforced the back a bit with buckram. Then a couple of hours sewing the paillettes , sew the lining to the front of the belt and voila!
