    Kohl eyeliner

Any suggestion for where to get kohl eyeliner? Does L'Oreal still make one?

This is what I've been using. Pricey, but it lasts a long time. I used to use a Sally Hansen product that cost $10, but they apparently discontinued it. The Guerlain is better, but not 3-1/2 times better:

Amazon.com: Guerlain Terracotta Loose Powder Kohl Liner 01 Black: Beauty

They have it in several colors now...

Thanks, Zorba. I had come across that one in my searching, but I can't believe everyone in the Middle East who's using kohl is paying almost $40 for it. I know all our drugstore versions got discontinued, but what do people in the ME use? There is a long thread on this at Long Hair Community:

The Long Hair Community Discussion Boards

Another expensive one is mentioned there as well as a less expensive one:
Black Sormeh by moshakatani on Etsy
MOROCCAN Kohl & HANDCARVED wooden bottle kajal eyeliner on eBay (end time 28-Jul-11 17:27:32 BST)

There's also discussion of what's really safe; even though people used it for ages before doesn't mean it was good for them. So I'm trying to find that product that is authentic, safe, and affordable. A tall order to fill, maybe!

Probably. I have heard from several sources that the ancient antimony compound is still in widespread use in the middle east. Once certain Belly Dance importer stopped selling it once she learned how hazardous it was. I use the Guerlain because I know its safe - even for contact lens wearers (like me!).

In the FWIW department, I've had my Guerlain for several years, and haven't run out yet - it goes a long way...

I did get some and have been wearing it almost every day. Some days I don't have to put any on because it's still somewhat there and perfectly smudged from the day before. I love it!

    LOL, I'm at LHC too!

But for the benefit of everyone here who isn't... anyone make their own, as mentioned in the thread there?

As I said there, I'm going to try it as soon as I finish getting the supplies. Excited, but a bit nervous too because I don't know if it'll work, I'm afraid the vegetable oil lamp I want to use to make it will get too smoky and set off the smoke alarm or something. And don't feel like sitting and watching it go for hours either! (I could put it out by my car in our carport, but I don't need the neighbors calling the police to say I'm "cooking" something over an open flame in the parking lot... I do not wish to explain it to the local constabulary OR our apartment management company! At best I'd still get a lot of weird looks!)

I'll post again once I finally get around to it, though, and let you all know how it went!

Artemis isn't selling kohl anymore because of the lead content.
