In addition to my big honkin' brush case, I am making personal-sized ones.
I was tired of not having a way to transport my kabuki brush!

Thanks! I would say that each one took about 25 hours, although I didn't do the best job of keeping track of the time. The whole project took me about 2 months, working on them evenings and weekends. I was suffering some major sewing burnout after that!

The ruched pieces are separate. it was kind of cumbersome, but I couldn't come up with a better way to get the look I was after. I had a chance to study an Eman costume with a similar look up close and she also used a separate piece, but it seemed like one really, really long strip which was sewn on and folded back and forth (if that makes sense). I didn't really like how it looked, so I did each section (top and bottom, on each side) as a separate piece.

Aw, thanks everyone! I love making costumes almost as much as I love dancing, and I am hoping someday to become a full time dancer/costume designer.
I have several other costumes I have made and am working on a portfolio/website to be released soon (I hope!).

*plug* I am available for custom work *end plug* ..g.:

    Hello Amanda!
These look so well-done and professional, and the troupe looks fantastic! Are they based off Eman's Hollywood II (that's what Dahlal calls it)? A friend of mine has this costume, and I was inspired to make one similar to it. It's still on my to-do list...

Did you style the back portion of the belt in a similar fashion?

Thank you, yes, they were based on the Eman costume. I did the back a little different, although I don't think I have any close ups. I didn't do the "g-string" looking beaded part around the zipper, and the rouching goes straight across in the back instead of curving back up.

Amanda, would you mind telling me how much fabric went into each costume? The skirts look very full!

It took about 3-4 yards for each costume. The skirts are very full and its a great look, but you definitely end up with a lot of wasted fabric scraps. It would take a lot more fabric if you were using something with a directional pattern or nap.

Re: *New* 'What are you working on?' thread.

It's a bit difficult to see from the pics how it will look on, there are some complicated straps going on that I haven't finished yet. Also I'm planning to make choli-style attached sleeves, and do loads of beading on the skirt too.

    I must be crazy!

    Triple threat costume!

    Tribaret, tricky, tardy!

I've been working on this thing for a long time, having made the vest and belt base a year ago. The harems I made a few months ago from some fabric from Azhia. The medallion fringe is awkwardly pinned for the time being and the vest doesn't fit my dummy very well (she's larger than I am, thanks to Weight Watcher's) though you get the idea. The beadwork on the bra isn't finished---I'm considering beading the entire thing so my boobs won't look like they're staring at the floor. Three rows of round gold beads will be at the top of the belt and at the armscyes and neckline of the vest to make it look more finished. Methinks this costume would kick ass for a sword dance!

I'm open to suggestions to make this costume even better.

One last thing: what to do with my arms?..c::

wow!! you made this? you did a uber-flawless job .w.:

the details on the belt/skirt are amazing (is that a piece of nude fabric across your leg?). how did you get it to fit so perfectly?

Yes, over the leg is nude skin net with Hot-Fix-Cristals. on the top of the skirt is like a belt and the skirt self are two half-disk.

wow, quite a few of these have been added to my "costume lust" folder

we should do this thread on a monthly basis, like the diet thread....18 pages is getting a little unwieldy!

Love this thread! You ladies are all so talented! I've been inspired to pick up my project costume again. I'll have to post some pics tonight. Almost done with the skirt.

I don't know - I kind of like the continuing thread. It's nice to be able to page through to see all of the projects, some with photos of different stages of completion. I have bookmarked it to make it easy to find.
