Something a little different
Anybody now the boat and the dancer? My jury is out on the costume.

Re: Something a little different
Oh my. Pretty dancer, nice smile, some nice moves, hideous costume. But, I'm not a fan of the mini skirt costume on anyone so my opinion is colored by that. I noticed that much of her video did not show anything below the bottom level of her skirt. Which plays to her advantage. I think there's far too much going on with the legs in this dance form that doesn't necessary look very good in a short skirt. That's just my opinion. Some people here will love it and think it's edgy. It's just not my thing. Then again, I don't like Sahars or Bella's so beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

Re: Something a little different
IMHO i dont think think the costume is flashy enough for a boat performer. isnt it all suppose to be about glitz and flash or oo and ahh w boat entertainers? (im not to sure about this it could just be a sterotype lol)
but i too HATE the mini skirt look.

Forget the mini skirt! What's with those leggings?

I could be wrong, but it looks like the Nile Pharaon, and it looks like Magda, who is relatively new on the boats.

I like the dancer and the dancing.
The costume looks like something out of a seventies sci-fi film, so I kind of dig it. Yes, I am strange.

Re: Something a little different
I like the dancer. She is very expressive and looks like she is having fun..and maybe the costume lends itself to that "fun". If she gves the impression she is not taking her self seriously, I understand pushing out the bondaries wth a costume. I also realise dancers have to make an impression and those leggings sure do.

I also know tht I am audience who would be quite happy to see a dancer trot out in one of Samia or Tahia's old costumes but equally to suit a less "belly-dancer" audience she has to look "modern"/funky/different. That'll also apply to dancers who want to see dance costuming develop.
It is interesting to see that there are many professional dancers prepared to chance a chance on costuming and those like me are old "stick-in-the-muds" audiences.

If the Vice Police aren't going to cite her for that, then the Fashion Police should. Just say NO to gartered leg warmers!

Re: Something a little different
Actually, now that you mention it, am I the only person not totally in love with the newer costumes with the aggressively random fringe on them (e.g., Belly Dance Costumes | Belly Dance Store.com: gallery 12599 or Belly Dance Costumes | Belly Dance Store.com: gallery 12590 or Belly Dance Costumes | Belly Dance Store.com: gallery 12603)? I get the idea of wanting a very bright, busy design, and some of the styles work better than others, but they feel like the costume equivalent of a web page with fifty different fonts on it to me. I look at them, and I imagine someone trying to use up all the leftover beads that they didn't have enough of for a whole costume. I like a more streamlined, consistent design. Different strokes for different folks, though. All that fringe probably has nice movement to it.

The dancer is lovely, but the costumes seems sort of like, I don't know, Pocahontas meets bellydance? Not digging it at all.

Re: Something a little different
I really like her style and energy; she has a 100-watt smile, too. Something about her reminds me of Suheir Zaki.
The top of the costume is pretty nice, but not only is the bottom a bit odd, it doesn't flatter her figure. Which is a shame, since she has a lovely figure -- and the miniskirt and legging-things aren't doing it justice.
I have to agree with the above post about it looking retro-scifi: it's rather Barbarella.

Re: Something a little different
LOL I have this costume for sale in two color ways. I knew it would be one of those that people either loved or hated.
By detaching the legs and adding a circle skirt, you treat the mini like a belt and get a whole new look.
