    Dina bra forms

I bought some bra forms from Zhanna and was wondering if anyone else who did has worked with it yet. Apparently you've got to heat the needle in order to sew through it since it's basically plastic. I figure there's got to be another way. If anyone has worked on it, I'd love to see what you've done and to know any tips you have for working with it. Thanks!!

It looks as though some of the ones I got have been machine sewed so I was gonna try that, we'll see what happens. The one I got from her previously was really hard to sew through by hand but my machine did just fine when it came time to sew on the straps.

If its tough i may try warming up the bra rather than heating the needle, I don't want to light my sewing machine on fire.

Thanks Nancy--I was afraid to try with my machine but you've given me some courage so I'll give it a go and keep my fingers crossed. I'll let you know how it goes.

Actually, yes! As far as I'm concerned, the sewing machine is a power tool & the same rules apply! One of my friends' sister narrowly missed having her eye punctured when a needle snapped and flew out. I know it's rare, but it's worth considering.

What I was originally going to say: I don't know the specific bra you are talking about, but I've had luck using a leather needle to go through some of those thicker, plastic-y materials. you don't need it for vinyl, which tears more easily.

When I did home ec in junior high we were required to wear eye protection while using the sewing machines, and I've been pretty diligent about at least wearing my glasses when I machine sew ever since, although I know I would be better off with proper protective gear.

I guess that's not a bad idea. I like my eyes and don't want to risk injuring or God-forbid, losing one. I have heard that leather needles can handle tough fabrics, so I'll get one for when I finally get around to working on it. I'm glad you mentioned that!

I bought one too and it was a pain in the a$$ to work with! but all in all, it's very sturdy. here it is:

If I remember correctly, she did say that it would be better to sew on some sort of foam or something before putting fabric onto the bra directly. so perhaps that would help you sew through it

she got them from Egypt, so perhaps checking with some of the designers there to see if they are willing to sell just the bases?

This is gorgeous Zana--I LOVE that print! Did you use foam to cover the bra? How did it go for you sewing the straps and back pieces on?

    Full contact sewing!

But yeah.....totally understand after being tagged in the cheek/neck with broken needle tips. Very good 'point.'

no I didn't use foam, although that would have been smarter lol the straps and back pieces are softer so they were easier to sew on. I did it all by hand
